The SVA test

I know it's not really "boating discussion", but it's about the only place for it other than talking bollix, and I'm not Manos.

Any way, I've bought a vehicle in Texas, and it's currently being transported to South Carolina, where it will be put on a Ro Ro and shipped to Southampton.

Now the question is, does anybody know anything about what will be required for the SVA test, or possibly reccommend someone to do the job for me.

What car did you bought, I have Chrysler LHS an American vehicle and is this SVA test to do with the registration of the vehicle in the UK ?

It's a ford f150 pickup truck, with a Roush Racing conversion.

The SVA is to test that it conforms to our standards in lights, safety, emmisions etc.

Congratulation Tony finally person with sense to American pickups in UK, well I can tell you over here we wouldn´t need to do anything as our regulations have exemptions if they have SAE or DOT approvals (equals to CE in Europe). If I recall right there should be available CE approved lights. If you want I can call my friend at Ford Iceland and see what could be done or is required as I know they have sold a few F150´s to Luxembourg which needs to go through CE approvals. Let me know. Again good choice of pickup truck.

Thanks for the offer, I might take you up on that. As far as I'm aware a newish North American vehicle conforms to the majority of our requirements, they normally only have a problem with lights.

The truck I've bought has "european" type lights, that is to say it has white sidelights at the front and amber indicators, the only problem maybe the red indicators at the rear, but the common dodge seems to be to remove the white reversing lights and replace them with amber bulbs, plus a bit of re wiring.

Also you need to put on foglights which are not on American cars. I didn´t need to do anything on mine not even foglights, the indicator light at the back are red etc. No problem if I can be of assistant give me a shout

There is an SVA testing station very near Drivers Wharf over the bridge and the first turning on the other side. Talking of Drivers Wharf would Scotty's Speed shop be any use to you

For the SVA test you will need to add some dice and a 24" sub woofer + a couple of 2,000 watt amp's.

Try phoning 'Bauer Millet' in Manchester they import these from the states and should be able to tell you what needs doing
