i dont think so

He raced for the Penarth club in the old "D" class, Wayne I beleive was the pilot. I think they put a third engine on this rig also, which blew up! Have you any photo's of Gordon Council's old single engine rigs which gave 999 and many other twin rigs a run for thier money!!!

The black boat, "If Only", is an Ilver built on Lake Como.

No 4 was Pete Carpenters boat, He towed his daughter Nikki with it and she won many European titles. Pete later built an inboard version that was red. The boat was called an Ilva, and im pretty sure Pete moulded them himself.

The red and white boat was the late Ray Bryant's Abbate also from Como. It's been discussed on here before. It was painted many different colours but ended it's racing days black. It's currently on display in a museum.

First saw the Ilver at a Seasalter race and I remember that it was yellow when Alan Symonds brought it over from Italy. He soon sold it to Peter who was the only person to get those 220 Lazers to work. Last I heard it was in a garage near Weston with a V8 Johnson on the back.

Danger...

No i did not m8, my boat is called "fast Forward", looks just like the Black #4 boat here... it has a huge v8 factory race spec bowtie tall block Chevy, with the Kinsler fuel injection system, far from standard.. Ross pistons, Manley rods, etc..the boat is mainly silver with some yellow/red, speedmaster 3 leg fitted, Stelling exhausts etc...someone spent a bucket load on the engine as we have stripped it and found out :D

I will be listing it here soon in the Gallery and all the engine internals and pics of the boat trailer too when she is finished..... but this is all very interesting!:D

Will have a chat with Pete tomorrow and see if he has any. You need to have a ride down to Stone sometime as alot of the members there were involved in the build. Where did you buy it Dan ?

Sounds like its the same boat!, Someone from the Stone club must have some pics of it then, would love to see some, i will bring her down when she is finished then :)

Having some pistons made by Ross pistons in USA atm, as the stroke was a one off, sadly when i bought the boat some idiot had left it out in the rain and the bores have water damage(as the Kinsler fuel injection system has gold trumpets and the water goes straight down!) so taking her out bores wise and having new pistons made as not an off the shelf fit! ($$$), would like to get to speak to the engine builder too if anyone can help would be great... thanks guys for help so far. cant wait to get her up and running, eta for pistons is 3-4weeks from Ross and i have everything else i need...:D:D:D

Couple of pics from Lyme, Marshan 18 circa 1977, Phantom 16 1986.
Stuart Hutchings stood by the Marshan when me old man used to tow him. skied behind it when I was a Dauphine. Made a change from the Skitenders that we raced, having split the previous two, two skitenders went back to Shakeys in tandem after a race at Exmouth, both split. Ours and Stuart's dads. 85 HP and hands in front. Those were the days. Still kept the number as well. The name Demolition Squad came about after breaking the Skitenders. Still got the ski

Remember that well - was the first ski race I had seen - somewhere I have a photo of them as they came into the harbour - but finding it could be difficult!

Must have been very early 80's at that.

The hull of the inboard was indeed a copy of an Ilver made by Peter carpenter, He also made a copy that was #4 the outboard.(I did buy one of the Lazers, which ran of a few years as an injection engine, we later put carbs on it as it used to refuse to do more than 4000 revs sometimes during a race. Latter found this was due to a rev limiter in the ecu!)
Peter spent a fortune trying to get the inboard to run right, he sold it to a Guy at Stone called Vince who used it for a few years for club racing, ) It was then owned by another guy at Stone called Matthew Cary, as i remember it blew up the first week he had it, I think it was rebuilt buy a engine specialist called Ken Dawes, (also Stone member). after this the boat disappeared until the next time I say it was on the bank of the canal in versel about two years ago!
The hull had a problem with the transfer of fuel from the side pods to the center holding thank which is in the middle at the rear, there was (or is) a blockage and fuel would not transfer from on of the pods.
At one point when Peter was having detonation problems it was thought to be due to fuel octane rating, he fitted (cant rememberer the right name for them) but they were the metal anodes/catalysts that the world war 2 bombers were fitted with to make the run on cheap petrol, they were said to boost the octane rating of the fuel!
It was thought that one or more of these came loose inside the pod and blocked the fuel outlet!
Nicky had a couple of bad falls behind this boat, on one occasion she fractured here skull, son after this Peter called it a day.
Good luck ! hope his helps

I believe I've got Boat number 4 in the first picture. Known as 'Black Knight' and 'If Only'. I spoke to Peter and Nikki Carpenter about it, and they've confirmed it. I hadnt got far with the history as I thought it was called an Elva not Ilver.

She was in a skip in Wales in not very good condition, painted bright yellow. Never had an inboard fitted from what I can see.

I'm halfway through restoring her, should have her finished by this summer, will be painted in the same colours as in the picture with #4 on her.

If anyone has any pictures of her, I would really appreciate if you could forward them, as I'd really like to build up the history of her.

Cheers,

George
