trim gauge

my trim gauge has died... any ideas where to start. its on an alpha one sterndrive coupled to 210hp mercruiser... cant see any obvious loose connections in dash..

It's nearly always a problem with the sender, located on the side of the gimble.

You need to pull it apart, clean and re grease.

Had the same problem, but couldnt get the screws undone.

A good operator shouldnt need one.:wave:

buy a snapon screwdriver with acr, you will be amased at how well it will grip them damn screws, make sure you put plenty of pressure on the driver too,

Make sure when you re-fit / replace the unit you use plenty of 2 - 4 - C marine lubricant on the fixing screws & in the threaded part within the leg. You'll stand a better chance of removing it next time when it f**k's up again!

i havent found it yet but havent really looked, i presume its obvious? couple of wires or somet?

It's below the part that pivots 'up & down' on the leg.
You'll see a black (cotton reel sized) item with 2 screws securing it.

holy thread revival!!

So time has come to fit the trim gauge and stop guessin!

Took the sender appart today and cleaned contacts up... metered it and impedance changes as its rotated. outside and inside in engine bay... brown/white and black wires i believe....

Having trouble getting to back of gauge but it seems the impedance changes make it into boat loom yet the gauge is always on 1/3 trim from down... power on or off, sender in cct or not... i thought if sender knackered it would jump to max or min when dissed...

Anyone got any ideas is the big red i can just see on gauge a +ve?? its a faria gauge. do they die?

There should be 4 wires on the back of the gauge, positive (red), negative (black), trim signal(brown and white) and illumination.
