Got my New Yam 90A!

Still at dealer's basement, three storeys below ground level, will be at my garage monday.

Not bad a price in malta Lm 2350, about 3600 sterling. I will post the pics of it as it is being assembled onto my trusty Crusader.

VERY HAPPY MAN :drink:

Ok, New Engine on,

We went yesterday out to commence the Break In procedure!

On turning of the key to the 'ON' position, the overheat warning lamp started to flash - no buzzer sounded though.

I have new oil, petrol and spark plugs in (NGK - BR8HS 10). Can it be because I used a 45 Ahr battery instead of the recommended minimum 70 Ahr one?

Thanks

You did put oil in the petrol tank ?!

Crusader

Yes - I Did

I premixed oil in the petrol tank at 50:1 as detailed in the owner's manual.

It says it needs double oil during the break-in, in order to mate surfaces evenly.

Have you any idea about the overheat warning lamp flashing?

it could be that the safety system is faulty,i had a very simular problem once before on a mariner, there was nothing wrong with the engine, but still had to check it out at the dealers

For those that may have took interest, I have today solved the overheat light flashing problem.

Yamaha digital tacho's have a grommet at the back which uncovers a micro swith panel with three switches. They must be set differently for different Yamahas and were set incorrectly. Now all the readings are accurate!

Thanks!!

Being quite a novice, it is nice to hear that from experienced boaters like the bunch here!

Have you ran your Crusader with the 90 yet?

If not be careful!

The Crusaders are prone to very bad torque problems i.e.. leaning to the left. This can result in barrel rolls! All Crusaders that raced rolled!

Make sure that motor is well offset, and make sure all weight possible is in the right hand side of boat - don't compromise ! We did and paid the price!

also keep an eye on the left hand side of hull near the bow ...they can split there due to the torque (most did)

Not quite sure thats what crusader wants to hear.

Nice project and pictures crusader, good luck with the boat.

Yep, good luck Crusader despite the doomsday predictions. If there is too much torque i'd suggest auto flaps beyond motor placement.

We ran crusader hull extensions made of grp, dropping the left tab helped the problem - but the downside was regularly snapping the left tab.

Member Pennpromo can probably cast his mind back to those problems…. cant you Simon?

I had a Crusader 16/150 Black Max,and it certainly did like to corkscrew, that boat left me black and blue a few times.

but it was a little over-powered, so hopefully our friend will be fine.

Hi

I have driven the crusader with the 90 engine, although not for much - only 9.5 hours due to the exams I have going on at the moment it has been sitting in the garage for quite a long time now.

I noticed that it leans a very long time ago, but mine leans to the right, especially when I'm driving alone, the gel coat is a bit cracked also on the right hand side (the driver's side)

Even when driving in very good conditions, it still leans a bit to the right. Maybe because I am a bit heavy (100kg) and the pals are a bit lighter. I try to balance the weight as much as possible so for the boat to fly straight and always give full throttle only on flat sea when I'm safe, other i drive at about 30000 - 35000 rpm.

When at full throttle i see 42 - 45 knots on the oem preasure speedo (the ones that have the fin hanging off the back of the boat), which may not be that accurate!

I'll be even more careful now that i know that you have had those problems in the past then

thanks for the advice, and more info welcome

Noel
