Anybody got any info on Ring Hull Identification?
I know where to look, just need to know how the numbers relate to build year.

Its most often lke this

20C 210290

so that'd be a ring 20 'C' model, deck started construction 21st Feb 1990

simple!

Pretty simple then, unlike the later Phantom ones.
Just one question remains, wot's the "C" signify. Is it A = 16. B = 18 and so on?

nope, there were various models of rings.

i.e

16 a,b,c
18,b,c,d
20, blah blah blah.

for example Darexms on this forum is building a couple of 16's which i'm sure where the 'c' model.

Right, nearly there.
Wot's the differance between an "A" "B" & "C" then?

i had a 1990 21 c,it had a sun pad on the back and a big gill bracket, you could also have them fitted with an inboard. a ring 21 d,is a 21 with a cuddie

Well, the 16C has 3 rails with smooth corners at the back.

Can't remember seeing one with a step in the bottom

I think the larger models with the sun bathing pad were intended to be fitted with an inboard (although I think the RingCat 22 didn't have an engine well and I can't imagine it being fitted with an inboard? The only one I've seen had the engine fitted with a gill bracket).

I think the RingCat 22 had the little steps on the back corners as well as the sport cuddies (Xtreme's).

obviousely! but I have seen c model hulls that are older than b model hulls so I dont think that a b c etc is in order of age! but I could be wrong.

ID plate on my R20 is 20-D-25-05-91 so its a D model dont know what makes it a D model different to any other it also has 3 strakes along the deck, also has a bow water tank wether thats the difference?

Maybe all ring owners should take pics of their boats (was gona say take pics of their rings but didnt think that appropiate:rolleyes: ) and serial numbers to see what the difference is between hull code of each model then it can be documented?

Why doesn't one of you Ring piece lovers ask Mike for some help putting together a list of models, with photos etc.

Mike isn't so scarey really, though I admit he looks it. Anyway, just ask him, I'm sure he'd help.

problem is, he's such an old timer nowadays; he's prolly forgotten that he actually ever built boats!

I reckon you're just the man for this job!

Maybe you could build a webpage(s) to get bolted onto Mikes main site giving all the historic & model info.

Well Volunteered Chaos!

Mind you, you'll need to work a bit quicker than you have on other recent IT projects!

PS. wot you doing up at 4.23am?? No wonder you can't get out of bed in the morning.

16a had lots of freeboard !! 16b was stepped & cut away at bottom of transom (I have the Hull plug for that one now converted to a Rib) 16b & 18b both had riveted on windscreens !! C model then came with moulded screens !! 16c was 16'10" and was later sold to South coast Marine and produced as a Marina Corsican as was the 15'

1990 saw the 16d which had shorter rails less freeboard and was reduced to 16'6" (Awesome boat)
