How quick did the 50 go?
Looking at the pic, I assume you re-located the intercooler/heat exchanger on the port motor?

Looks like a beauty to work on:aaahhh:

The boat only toped out at 55mph due to the diesel engines running out of steam to keep up with the turbine, I needed to use 2 speed tranies on the diesels when the turbine was running but the cost was crazy for the ZF units and I ended up abandoning this project for a while until the scarab is complete.

The intercoolers were moved to make room for the turbine those big Volvos weigh about a ton each for 400hp, the turbine weighs 300kgs for 1600hp and 1600Lbs feet torque @ 6000 rpm at the output shaft.

but why 2 x diesels and a tuebine?
or is that the whole point!

I would guess that the boat is nice to use with twin diesels for everyday stuff, pottering about and manouvering, then light the big fire for getting a move on when you're going places, over to you Jason.
PS. what's a "tuebine"? and can you get a thubine, or a monbine, or even a sat/sunbine! :D

Yep Jon’s right diesels for economy and getting around the dock set all three away to get on the move and cover large distance more quickly plus one hell of a good noise!
Jon Fuller

Just how noisy is it exactly?
JASON

Most of the noise is from the intake when we run it in the garden it was about 130-140 db (sounds like a jet fighter on take off) By the way exhaust gas temp is around 600 deg c no need for a BQ on this boat.

You would save close to 1600lbs. if you could locate a couple used Yanmar440s. They weigh right at 1200lbs. each.

Who built that motor? Do you use surface drives on all the engines?
JASON

I did all the engine work and rigging myself the drives I used were arneson ASD8 surface drives with rolla props

Scarab is getting there but very slowly every single part has to be custom made just had one piece shaft made to couple engine to gearbox and kevlar blanket to wrap around hot section incase it goes BANG!
