Anti-foul

My friend has a 2000 23ft ring rib, kept in chichester marina.
He is is thinking of anti-fouling her for this season.
Do you need to use a primer for this or can you just paint it straight on the hull? Is there anybody in this area interested in doing this for cash, as he's getting a riduclous quote through the marina yard!!

Surely the answer is to do the job himself, or is it the usual "don't do shitty jobs but expect someone else to do it for bugger all".

marina is quoting 700 quid ish.... but that includes hull prep, primer and 2 layers of paint!!
200 quid to lift the boat etc

firssty wanted to know if it needs 3 layers or will one thick coat do!!

might do it myself.... as yes the wedding fund needs topping up!!

Boat is on a bunk trailer in marina yard at mom, so wondering how to do it without incurring lifting costs, whether it can be jacked up off the trailer so I could paint all hull???

DIY deffinately. 1 x 2.5 L of paint just did my Pacific 22 with 2 coats and I found a 7" radiator roller the easiest way to paint the boat. If you support the hull the bunks can be dropped out of the way and you can work underneath it. If there are rollers along the keel. Tie the boat to a tree and drive the traile forward to pul the boat back a bit and support the stern so you can paint these bits as well. Use a sheet or paint goes all over your trailer which looks naff.

I already had antifouling on the hull so just scrubbed this down really well with a green pan cleaning thingy. Not sure about primer, but International do a very good paint guide book for free from the Chandlers.

whats the easiest way of removing this from the bottom of a hull and thus allowing me to polish it back up?

Parking it on Bournemouth beach on a hot day and forgetting the tide is going out.

Actually I don't know, was kind of hoping you could try and let us know. Not sure I want to put an acid like chemical all over my GRP.

The only type of soda blasting i know of -

Theres some stuff called Dilunet. Was that the name?:brain:

Then theres a bloke in a van who uses a blaster not loaded with glass or sand. He gets the lot off in about 20 mins back to the GRP without damaging it. :jaw:
