..Friday 3.11.06 The Solent.
TD (alias Hanibal Lectre) and I, took a fab ride over to Cowes today in my Phantom.
Lunch in the Anchor, Hot choccy & cake in the Fountain.
73 point summat highest recorded gps speed.
Absolutely perfect day!!

Well, with it being a mono, weight isn't quite such an issue, but I'm sure you know that.
The design speed of my boat when planning it's build was 70mph, that was based on the power, the known design, and the anticipated/planned weight.
As I clearly anticipated the weight about right, I guess there isn't any 'bollox' in my boat, it was all 'supposed' to be there.
Of course, if it were stripped out and made lighter, it would be faster, in the same way, that if I added a load more, it would be slower.
As I said, a boat that relies on a cushion of air (air entrapment)under it for it's speed, aint gonna take much extra weight to squidge that air out, and lose all it's advantage.

Actually, it wasn't!
All the time the sun was up, it was absolutely glorious! TD din't need the 'Lectre mask' as it turned out.
Bit cold and nasty washing it off though, as the sun had gone down by then, and I got wet.

jon what is the weight of you boat without motors and drives
with all the trim in place, how quick would it be if it had a pair of outboards on the back say 250 xs

Actually, reading that post again, it's misleading!
It should read,"TD didn't need the Lectre mask to keep warm" as clearly it's a great advantage to the rest of us him wearing it, as it's less frightening than his face. :aaahhh:

I don't know what 250xs's weigh. my motors/drives are about 550 kilos each, but then there's quite a bit of associated extra weight from stuff you have to have, like huge batteries,huge battery cables, strainers etc. So the all up weight of the motors etc, is around 1250-1300 kilos, and the all up weight as it stands is 3100 kilos.
I think, had my boat been fitted out like Rogers, ie, with the 'minimalist' style phantom interior, fuel tanks from Wally @ Argonweld, no central heating, inverter, pop up cleats etc, etc, I would have saved in IRO 200-250 kilos, and been faster & better ballanced, but as I've said many times, it's just a pleasure boat, and 70mph was (at the time) a number I was happy with.
Now, ...what I need is a couple of IMCO shorties! :D ...If only I could afford them! That could give me another 2-3mph. :shag:
Without actually sitting down and doing the sums, I would guess 75-77mph on the big OB's, but it's not got an engine well, so it wouldn't be easy to do it right, you'd have to have one of them silly brackets.
Looks like you had the same weather yesterday that we had today. Clear blue skies and a bit cool.
Not to date myself but I saw Focus perform Hocus Pocus live at a club called My Father's Place on Long Island. They were fabulous and I still have the LP!

Stuck out here, its nice to read people's posts about boating, but its not as good as seeing pictures or video of familiar places and people actually participating in boating.
