Why do people call them "Nitro" when they run on mainly methanol? Always used to call them glow engines - maybe these days "meth" would be better?

'Street' terminology I guess, don't really matter though, does it.
The half gallon I have here is 10% Nitro.

I think the more generic term is IC (Internal Combustion) as apposed to electric. Don't see many pure diesel motors these days. Not surprising when you see how easily this bad boy starts. I got it home. stuck some fuel in it, gave the primer a pump, poped on the glow battery, and it went 1st pull! Better than my real bote!
My phantom-esq model not good enough for ya then JF ya big poooof?

No no that ain't right!!!
You see I'm not off to Paris in the morning - Now that's unfortunate.

What a disappointment. I thought you guys were into something special...they're just normal glow motors! Feck.
:)
Don't see many pure diesel motors these days. Here ya go. (http://www.eifflaender.com/enginepics.htm) I see Gig Eifflaender is dated 1922-2005, the old boy must have died.

Mines not, Its a 28cc 2 stroke (half a moped).:seaman:
By the way - I don't want to teach my grandmother how to suck eggs, but with so many new people using radio controlled models with motors and especially engines.
The one main safety point is that you turn off the transmitter before handling the boat.
Many fingures have gone for a burton when the transmitter falls over and the throttle lever slides up and spins the prop while someones holding it.

OK other users may be using your channel.
Point is though turn it all off as it can be bloody dangerous.

Another pet hate is people who call them remote control instead of radio controlled.

If someone else is using your channel then you shouldn't be running your boat full stop. I'd say its more the fact that as you switch the transmitter off with the reciever still on the servo's sometimes have a bit of a twitch.

Went out today for a play with the new toy.
Was all going swimmingly, until the RC gear got a bit wet, and it decided full lock to port was the order of the day! :bang:
Took half a bloody hour wrestling my way through the brambles & bushes to recover the bloody thing from the lakeside. Now have a dozen or so lovely cuts n scratches, torn clothes, grubby jacket and pissed off Wife.
Good this model boatin, innit. :seaman:
