Yet again, I'm blown away by the skill of the skiracers.
I can't believe how people manage to ski in that! :worthy:

Trust me, they get the easy ride when its like that. Have some sympathy for the poor old drivers:devil:
(that should get a couple of reactions !)

i think in all honesty, in those kind f conditions youve really got to pitty the observers, all there being told is "big one" evry 5 seconds, notknowing how to prepare themselves. i dread to think what was running through carls head, in some of chaos's photos. the second one in almost looks like a photo shop, theres not even any wake. rob must of been going some

i agree with dangerous, i find it easier on a ski than being in the boat in rough water!!!!

well done Cye:hugegrin:
well done Cye:hugegrin:
Cheers Scott.
Finally it all went well, no mistakes made by anyone going into corners!!!
Chaos no wake would be a good way to describe skiing behind Burty's, I would compare it to skiing behind a skate board!!!
Still better than skiing behind no boat! that is why I am rather pissed off about not having a Sequel yet, I think that after seeing the hull size and width of what Gav has managed to do the Sequel would have faired alot better than the Phantom.
The amount of slack rope as the boat was jumping around was often hard to deal with, and on one of the corners the rope would get dragged to the left under the swell!!!
Good fun tho skiing on rough water......much prefer it to the flat stuff, Cardiff bay next then up to Stone you going to watch?

Is that not more a case of driving technique? I can't imagine, that with virtually limitless power (for a 20) it wouldn't be possible to run the boat completely level and well loaded (ballast, where ever needed) to avoid such behaviour.
Or am I missing something. (I often do)

Burty could of given you the answer but . . . . . :seaman:

Hey what about the observers :hatchet:, you wouldn't be anywhere without one of them, when you have a good one it makes the skiers life easier for sure, especially in the rough stuff

I doubt it.
If Burty isn't doing it right, he probably doesn't know he isn't doing it right, or he wouldn't be doing it wrong in the first place!
It's a judgement for the skier, or an observer (not that observer), not the driver.
anyway, lets not go down the 'free the weston one' route eh.
It was just a throw away comment based on Cye's remarks, and, all the pics I've seen, showing 'Apache' heading for the sky.

Not that i would wish put myself in the "know it all " ski driver club, and said Weston one cannot comment on here (not getting involved in that thank you) but there are 3 people in a ski race team who all should have input into the post race meaningfull discussion :headbang: , otherwise known as the scream up in the boat.Seriously it takes a lot of time on the water with all 3 to build up the rapport and i would say that an experienced observer is more important than anyone else in evaluating and bringing a new team together. I have driven for Cye, he is a very very good skier, with no doubt 2009 on his mind.

Yes I would certainly agree that the race is a team event and any weak link when competing at top level will certainly show.
The obersver has to be the most important role as you have stated and an experienced good observer can save alot of greif and time whilst racing.
After skiing for around seven years now I would have prefered to ski with an experienced crew so that I can concentrate on skiing, but Burty and Carl are local and willing, to be fair altho Carl is not experienced he is not doing to bad for his first season.......just would have been alot easier with an experienced observer.
Burnham was lost due to the crew making mistakes, Weston was lost due to the crew again making mistakes altho Weston would have been very close racing.
Still I did say to the crew that it would take a few races to get back up to speed, I would say that we are there now (speed wise) just don't need any more mistakes!!!!
Jon it was amazing how many people commented on how Apache appeared to be airborne for most of the race, even Carl's Nan who knows nothing about boats made a comment.
This could be down to the fact that we were going faster than most with a small hull or that Burtys style of driving needs a little tayloring, saying that I would not have wanted to drive a boat myself through that lot (but thats why I am the skiier).

My sentiments exactlly.
I was talking to a couple of the skiers back at LM later and they said that they would rather be on the ski in those conditions than in the boat.
Strange 'cause they seemed like a good couple of lads, not mad at all.
