As the block is unpainted does that not mean hi po and hence prolly an old XR2?

Either way boat and engine look old!! but on the upside the prop gets the thumbs up!! Its the new latex "High Five"

The 2.4 BP's have got an unpainted block aint they?
Don't know what other ways to tell a BP unless it's got the obvious cowl, can't open the link because school computers filter eBay.

Its the old 2.4 style block but you are right it's unpainted (I'm to used to looking at my grey Mariner powerhead so I didn't spot that one ). It's premix but the oil pump mount is on the block so it's new enough to have had oil injection if it was a fishing motor. It has five petal horizontal reeds (bet you don't know how I can tell that ) and a steel flywheel. I'm pretty sure the carb BP's were 7 petal and would have had an ally flywheel. So if I had to put my money on it I would say it's a mid/late 80's XR2. I think that means it's 162 or 168 hp rather than the claimed 200 too?

Not sure but it looks painted to me, looks like a mariner! Do xr2's have powerhead fuel pumps and spark advance mudules? It's not a BP, thats for sure, I have four of them here and they're all 7 petal fronts, carb and efi and have aluminium flywheels and no oil injection.

- only one bump on the intake!

My guess is a mariner magnum

I'm not sure if its unpainted or Mariner grey now. Mine looks darker grey than that but I don't really now. The carbs don't have the emulsion tubes, but I dont really know if the older XR2's had them or not. Did the carb BP's have em. The oil pump drive looks like it has been blanked off. Didn't XR2's/BP's have it blanked as a part of the casting?

That's what I thought but I thought BP carbs were 7 petals too so I'll shut up now!

Speaking of emulsion tubes, presuming they're the same as slosh tubes, anyone got the how to on them and float baffles too, the search is out of action on S&F and I cant find the thread there. My motor flooded after almost every turn last race.

Thanks, Alan

Slosh tubes thats it, the little yellow plasticy tubes that go from the sides to the plate on the top. I'm not sure if emulsion tubes are the same thing, I may have called em by the wrong name, I know emulsion tubes are something to do with carbs though
