You can read all about the lump of shi*e at
http://www.airbus.com/product/a380_introduction.asp
Edit in answer to the question
The A380 can be powered by Trent 900 engines from Rolls-Royce or GP7200 engines from The Engine Alliance (a joint venture between General Electric and Pratt & Whitney).

Funny I just old school when I ask for uppie down or leftie right, I asking for a reason. Dont like some damm computer telling me I can't do it. Just my own opion they went a step too far with the automation. Remember those pics of the guy flying into the forest on a fly past a few years ago... poor bloke was pulling up like fek but aircraft computer was in "I'm going to land mode - sod off"

You will also be locked out of Braking & ground spoilers for up to 12 sec during aquaplanning depending on mod status. cover a long way down the runway in 12 sec doing 150mph oopss didn't one do that in Munich as well........................................
Edit:
require main wheel spin up to match speed for the system to work - aquaplane no wheel spin up cmpter locks you out for predetermined time lag..............

Surely all the manufacturers are building only 'fly by wire' airliners now aren't they?
and yeah, I remember the footage! nasty, I take it the crew didn't survive?

I think 3 died. (of 136 on board)
Sadly, the crash has been such a subject of so many conspiracy theories, like area 51, jfk, and diana it's difficult to filter the facts from the speculation.

Interesting article here on the 2 differing philosophies between airbus & boeing.
Airbus have hard limits in place which it will not let the pilot exceed.
Boeing don't - they figure if you're heading for a crash, exceeding the flight parameters of the aircraft might just save yer bacon - sighting a 747 pulling 4g as an example.
Can't decide which one I favour - I suspect something inbetween, as normal (Mr fence sitter )
Should add that this article is US and obviously pro-boeing.
