New boat for the fleet!

The Stealth Boat arrived today! As advertised here http://www.firebox.com/index.html?di...oduct&pid=1076

But brought from here because it was cheaper! http://www.eurocosm.com/Application/...pl2=RC-BOAT-02

On first appearances the boat looks remarkable similar to the bat boats, no stepped hull though.

Drive is from two props (two spare ones included in the box!) two 380 sized motors lay down the power. Power is supplied by an rc 7.2 volt rechargeable battery.

Have not had time to test it yet except in the bath whereby she produced an impressive prop wash at standstill!

Got one of these as well http://www.pirespreto.com/traxxas.htm
(Sank recently) engine currently seized was looking at rebuilding but the stealth is cost one third of the price of the parts of to repair the traxxas!

Claimed top speed of 30 KPH, have lightweight battery replacements waiting in the wings should be able to supply more voltage with no extra weight!

Will keep you all posted!

Need to isolate the rc equipment from the battery feed to the motors is I increase the voltage. One my other electrix boat I put a 9.6v motor in and ran 14.4Volts into the motor, power supplied from two 7.2volt sticks so I could just take a feed off on stick for the rc reciever and servos not sure how I am going to do that here maybe a resistor.

If it's anything like the twin motor rc cats we bought recently, and the setup does look similar, the rc receiver and motor contol (on-off, not proportional) is 1 integrated unit, so it wouldn't be that simple, you'll need to use the original solid state motor controller to fire a minature relay (x 2), which in turn fires the higher voltage supply to the motors.

Also, using a straight resister probably isn't the best way to try and reduce the voltage to the rc gear, i'd just get a wee group of independant batteries, (watch cell, or mebbe AAA cells) to run the rc seporately, much safer. Also means the rc would continue to work right down to the point where the motors stop turning (to get it back to the bank) where-as, when the main battery gets low, and the volts drop, the the rc stops working, while there's still enough charge to just about drive the motors (as standard), so that would be an improvement.
