Well,
Im going to continue burning fossil fuels at an alarming rate until its all gone. I certainly aint going to worry about it now as that might spoil the fun im having burning fossil fuel! And when its gone, its gone! But i will have had a lot of pleasure whilst it was available.
Only time will tell what fuels catch on in the future, and i will be gone then anyway. But I feel sure that man will survive, adapt and continue on in his own way.

I agree, the impending "oil shortage" is still a long way off. Until very recently an oil well was considered "dry" if oil stopped spurting out under pressure. The oil companies are now taking another look at these "dry" wells, because there's still billions of barrels down there- only now they'll have to work for their money by pumping it out.
(And don't forget shale oil!)
So you can stop measuring up for masts now

It's amazes me that we haven't yet come up with a way of creating 'petrol' that doesn't involve crude oil!
That said, it wouldn't really be in the interest of the political world to let that happen at the moment would it. Nothing is ever what it seems, especially with things like this!

we have .... kind of.
Thats what biofuel is. Ethanol can be used in petrol combustion engines. Higher octane than petrol too!

Hmmm, that's interesting, I've only ever heard of biofuel in diesel terms!
What does the petrol version come from then? Why aren't I making it at home yet?

Ethanol is brewed from sugar same as alcohol. Brazil has been using it for years they currently blend 25% ethanol into their pump gasoline.
Its not made at home because it is cheaper just to take crude oil out of the ground, which allows more profit for the oil companies and more room for massive government tax.
