I have a plan........

Ha ha, sweet! Sounds like they've been put in quite a variety of things then!
My idea was to (putting it basically) fit suspension, axle etc from a quad to a ride on mower, fit spare merc v6 to front, have lots of fun and take advantage of the fact it can be road registered over here!!

The challenge would be the cooling system.

Cheers Hydrostream, some good examples of lunacy there!!
Jon - My plan was to use a fresh water system with an electric pump and a rather large rad at the front. Something like a 3" core job should do. What do you think?
There's also now a mower race over here once a year at a bike show, it' got an unlimited class i intend to win!

Another challenge for me is going to be that i want the engine to sit upright as god intended, so i need to work out some form of gearbox and drive system so i end up with either chain or shaft drive pointing in the right diection!
Anyone got any bright ideas? I was thinking i could use the gearbox from a harley to give me a standalone solution for gears and neutral?

V6 Merc box to take power at 90 degrees sprocket on top of the housing then drive shaft to Harley box then youve got gears,
Or a 2" mid to cut all that out
Best just finish the Cat first though and stop drinking the sauce

If you wanna win an unlimited lawnmower race, an air cooled 100hp-ish 1 litre motorcycle engine would have all the power you could ever really use (and some) and be 1000% more practical & easy to do.
Matt & I went to a LawnMower race a while back. looked like fun.

Gazza - think you hit the nail on the head there, with the get on with the cat bit!
It's true, a 1000cc bike engine would be far easier, and thats why i wanna use a 2 stroke v6!!
Otherwise i wouldn't be up at this time on a saturday getting ready to go carry on attempting to get my cat ready for march, i'd be lying in bed thinking about when i next need to go check my nice simple phantom 20 is still all ready to go!
Oh, and pash - lawnmower racing is a sport of men, there's just always an exception (or 2) to prove the rule!!

I guess that if you feel you couldn't 'cut it' in the fast lane of Lawnmower Racing, the natural reaction might be to 'diss it'.
A sportsman might enter an event and win to show how 'Gay' the otther racers were.

Yeh, it was a good laugh.
Besides, I reckon having a Ford Ghia badge, or a Jaguar motif, on yer landrover would be pretty gay.

No one would do that. It would be silly.
Anyways, do we know when/where the next Lawnmower event is??
EDIT> just looked, there's a 12 hour endurance race at the end of July near to Chichester!
going by the map they post on their site, Pash could be right, check out the nearby 'street'.

Matt, shall we (Token Gays) go along for the final hours of the endurance event? might even find another superb pub!
