Rather good the the RYA who did their best to block Chris Parsonage from running RTI, now wallow in the glory as if they were instrumental in it's attempt.

Hmm, made me chuckle. Until I realised who they'd be taking the record from!

Whilst the RTI record is still a current topic, I have a question.

The record that Puddifoot held of 86mph-ish, was this record set in his revenger 29, 'Dragons Revenge'? (in it's previous life as an OB boat)

BTW, this is a VERY loaded question!

Right.

So a Mannerfelt B-28, with a pair of (I assume) 280 efi's, in near perfect conditions, manages less that 2mph higher average speed!

Puddlefoot was running a open cockpit, centre console Revenger 29 rib with twin 150's!

There are therefore two possibilities, one or both would account for his "unbelievable" average speed.

1st:

They weren't 150's surely not! (these were the max power allowed in his class of racing, but would the soon to be RYA powerboat manager cheat??)

2nd:

The timing wasn't accurate! I heard a rumour a few days ago, that he telephoned via mobile to let the timekeepers know when he was passing Lymington (start finish point for RTI records) and to 'start the clock'.

Either or both of these points would clearly enable a false average speed.

Does anyone know anything about his record?

And do we agree that an 86mph average (you'd need a max speed of at least low 90's the achieve this) is a little unbelievable from that setup?

Perhaps John Puddifoot is just a supremely good driver? Ever considered that eh?

Eerr, no

Apologies Mr K

****.

What I said was something along these lines:

I don't believe that either of your scenarios are realsistic.

Surely no-one would want a meaningless trophy so badly that they'd massively cheat to get it. What's the point? Where's the satisfaction?

There's no way that the sport's official governing body would sanction such a cavalier approach to timing for a world record. They'd soon be a laughing stock.

So there must be another answer. Perhaps John Puddifoot is just a supremely good driver? Ever considered that eh?

I doubt that any offshore RIB would do eighty anything with 2 X 150's on actually, let alone a top speed of over 90. I reckon Jackie and Mike with twin xs200's were only just doing 90 - 92 in thier 4 litre RIB, and they were later engines and hence better performers + that boat had 100 HP more!
