Has anyone done the B+E towing test for those of us that have passed in the last 10 years?

Really should get around to doing it, but it seems like such a faff.

B+E only covers you to tow anything with a combined weight upto 3500kg any length within reason!

Mr Rob your theoretically driving with no license if your towing! I was told by my instructor that the average cop doesnt know the laws on towing anyway so if you were stopped by one of them i wouldnt be to worried mate!

iv got to do my test soon. if you are going to tow a trailer with a combined weight and load of over750kg you need the test so far as i can see from the rules. the test is compiles of some on road driving (remember the trailers longer than the small one your alowed to tow). an offroad parking manouver (put the trailer between the cones) wich is easier with a big twin axled trailer than a light single axled trailer. a controled stop (push the brake pedal harder) and some other minor stuff like how to secure a load etc. and some other stuff my alcohol adled student brain has forgoten. bit of a joke really splesh when you think of all the hundreds of thousands of people that can legaly tow a trailer without the test. lol

True but the hardest thing for me considering i took my test 8years ago was bad habits because you go out on the road for atleast an hour with an instructor looking for the exact same stuff as a driving test!!

I think you'll find thaat the weight, and whether single or twin axle, makes no difference at all to the ease of manouvering.

The factors that make the difference are: mainly, the length from the pin (towball) to the axle, short is a bastud, the longer (within reason) the slower it reacts, and simpler it is.
And to a lesser extent, it's visibility from your driving position. If it's a resonable height, it's visible through you back window (if you have one) which makes it much much easier. But as long as you can see it in your rear view (door or wing) mirrors it's all pretty easy. if it's narrow (or narrower than your vehicle), and only comes into view in your mirror once it has begun to turn from straight (whilst reversing) it can be a bit frustrating reversing in a narrow area that doesn't have room for all that messing arround like a snake.

500 BLOODY POUNDS!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT???????
How come it cost that much? When I took my test all those years ago I think the test itself cost £70 all in!

So then ScottyBoy! Whats the crack with taking your test? Is it just like a driving test but with a trailer?

£448 For test fee and 2day's tuition with use of there car and trailer! Its exacxtly the same as taking your driving test again when you go out on the road (feeding the wheel, slowing down really really early, mirror's before you even fart etc etc! Hill start's(the correct way with a trailer) use of the road i.e knowing when you can break into the hashed area of the road when you have a trailer, things like that really! Its more than you think you have to know! The uncoupling/re-coupling and reversing through the cones is a doddle as is the emergency stop! Like i said before its bad habits and doing this new thing with the gears they call "block changing"! If ya like me and go down through each gear when slowing down then its hard not to keep slipping back into that and not realising you've done it!
