What a phenominal boat. Every part is a work of art from the rigging hanging off the back to the dash.
Mind you I can't see a ski pole - did it melt?

This boat is an absolute work of art, what a pity we did not see it in New Zealand.
Though even if it was their it still would of required a huge efoort to knock of Jason Walmsley and the MercForce machine.
I hope to see this boat stir things up at the worlds in 2009.

This boat is not an original idea, Martie Wells was trying to promote a boat very much like this on his web site a few years ago.
It had the same engine configeration, but the problem with it was that it was 22 feet long.
The idea was to have a reliable and relively economic boat with no tuning.
Unfortunatly his site has disappeared, he made good helmets and was helpfull and polite, mine is still going strong.

Mike Avila had the original concept of the twin inboards at the Ski Racing Worlds in Long Beach.
Martie Wells skied behind the Cyclone 191 the Evil Twin as in Single engine with twin drives
The first photo is of the later model, the second is of the one that raced at the World Championships in Long Beach, the third is of the Evil Twin that Martie won the FI World title with, of course I stand to be corrected !!!

Not sure if the original was there, they certainly brought the new model 191 and pulled Todd Haig to another World Championship title

How much power do you need to pull a skier competively?
Some of those boats look like they'd rip yer arms off.
Also, what's the benefit of dual drives on a single motor, versus say a single bravo 3x? Seen a few boats like that and I can't see what the benefits are.

When I spoke to the engineer that looked after the Evil Twin he said that since having twin drives on a single engine the drive reliability have improved greatly, no more blown drives, also the boat was more stable, the skier also benefitted from a better wake, as always I stand to be corrected.

Power wise for formula one i recon you need at least 1200hp to have a chance. At the worlds in NZ recently i believe the skiers were travelling at near 110mph down some of the straights

I've only seen a little ski racing on Sky sports once. It just looked like madness on the corners, with boats and skiers vying for position.
Has the situation ever happened where a driver has cut accross to take the corner tighter and gone under the rope of another skier.
At these speeds does the skier have the rope also conected to a harness, or is it all on his arms?

There are variations to how the skier holds onto the line and in most cases throughout the world, the 'wrapped' position is favoured. Having a doubled sided harness, with handles at the back end of side, the skier wraps these around his seat area and holds them with one hand, to complete the wrap. The remaining hand either holds onto a bar/handle infront or they may just hold onto the line itself.
Some racers use the hands out in front in some instances and I believe there are dedicated races in the US for this type of skiing.
Single handles are permitted also, but I have never personally seen any competitve skiing with these as of yet, but I am sure its been done.
