Worlds..

With the worlds just around the corner, has anyone got any news they would like to share?

Apart from Kim, Dave and James, who else is planning on going to watch and actually race?

Also, is there any news of F2 qualifiers or is it just pay and go?

Frank Flemming's 2.5s are advertised on Nico's website so I'd guess he's re-powering for the worlds. Dazza's right about the cold - it might be 50 degrees! The wife won't even entertain the idea. Last two holidays to watch ski racing it's either p****d down or been bloody freezing!

F2 Engines

Just downloaded the definition of F2 motors and procedures for checking, looks like you need some spare head gaskets if they are gonna do as they state regarding scrutineering.

They took long enough to get that out, Talk of it in the summer. Still no list of acceptable engines though.

They should go back to a fixed cubic capacity (at least for FII) because trying to scrutineer 300hp is just a nonsense. Anyone with a micrometer can measure c.c. for the cost of a set of head gaskets but dynamometers seem to be able to deliver any result you want.

F2 rules are a massive joke ! But unfortunately they are not funny
300xs is ok but not 300x ???? But you can run a 300 pro max what tha Why not have a homologated list of acceptable engines?
While on the subject what is the go with steering? Duel cable that no one makes any more or hydraulic no cable steering that rules out most Aus & NZ boats I some times wounder who wrights these rules ???

Dual steering

Just had a look at the F2 rules for steering are you sure you cannot run the wire and drum steering as we normally run in NZ and Aussy.
What is the difference between dual rotary and what we do?

Also under engine eligbility it says no race so does a 2.5 280hp with race computor not consumer compliy as this has the higher rev limiter, but under definition of an F2 you can remove the rev limiter, so is that being extra modual or from the ecu software which means modifying the it.
I don,t think the rules are very clear maybe someone out there could help.

Spinal Tap are competing in this years S80? I will be there in a drinking capacity!!!

Wire steering has been banned in the UK for years. I have raced a boat with it and I remember it being very good. My opinion is that if it's good enough for inshore cats doing speeds of up to 140mph then it's probably going to be good enough for us! The good thing about it is every aspect can be seen and inspected including: large pulleys, large backing plates, galvanised steel wire and everything nyloc'd and/or lock wired. Easy, simple stuff. I believe originally it was banned over here because it did break occasionally. Very large outriggers put an enormous strain on the system (especially when trimmed out) and people used stainless wire which can break without warning and is dear enough to stop people replacing it annually. The only time it's been seen over here for many years was at Hunstanton for the last Worlds which was ridiculous because however bad the rule it should at least be the same for everyone!

100 percent right gar
The thing about the light weight "river race" boats we have over here and in N.Z i.e Bullet,Lab,Force,1900 Cyclone,Concept,Sonic & 17/19 Connelly is that they would be very hard to drive with anything but wire steering. We have very strict rules on steering. Interestingly we use aircraft grade stainless cable but it has to be replaced every year and the old cable presented to scruteneer.
As for engines they say nothing over 300hp?
Does that mean they have a dyno in the pits?
Unlikley! and very hard to do! I dont get it
NZskiracer yes i will be driving Shipprek (see image) would love to catch up for a beer

300/300x/300xs

Prob because
300 promax is 300 hp and 200 kgs
300x is 325 hp and weighs same as the 300(so power to weight ratio is too high)
300xs is 325 and weighs about 3 tonn
(you get the idea, handicap of extra weight)
