Worlds F2 ski boats

Firstly great web site.
I am tring to find out more about the types of boats which would be suitable for the World water racing champs Which are here in New Zealand in May 2007. I have heard about the Bernico but what other boats are out there.
Current I driver a 19ft Sonic deep vee going to a flat pad at the back with a 300x. The hull I have been told really needs to be 20 or 21ft and capable of holding more ballast so need a different hull and my 300x is not allowed under IWSF rules so need to repower also, and this is just so I can go into the selection races!
So would greatly apprieciate any info on different styles of boats and general cost of these hulls.
Cheers

F2 Hull

Bernico,Cyclone,Haines(Sequel) are some that I would look at.

The Bernico is designed just for ski racing, having owned one of these this would be my first choice.
The boat measures 23ft 6" on the top deck and 21ft on the waterline which meets the IWFS rules for worlds water ski racing, you can have a bow and belly tank fitted which will allow for around 800lts of ballast (800kg) of extra weight to help flaten the wake.
The Bernico comes fitted (at extra cost) with 800mm long trim tabs which also help to flatten the wake.
With a 2.5 EFI mercury you will see around 85MPH which is more than enough for F2.
The Bernico is a lovely boat to drive as well.
Bad points for the Bernico- delivery & cost.

If you want a Bernico for your selection races I would suggest ordering one very soon as it does take some time with their current work load to produce one.

Cost: Not the cheapest of hulls but you get what you pay for!

Cyclone 21ft you can choose a carbon / Kevlar mix hull if you want a light boat, nice wide beam produces a good wake to ski behind can be fitted with bow tank.
Also a good boat to drive (not first hand experience).
Can be hard to acheive good top end speed without alot of set-up
Delivery around 8 weeks from order- UK Cyclone

Cost: a bit cheaper than the Bernico contact Cyclone UK for price.

Haines 21ft proven hull design.
Gav on this forum is due to be making a one with a new deck this September.
I will be very interested in this myself for use as an F2 boat.
Not to many other details on this at present, PM Gav for more details.

As your in NZ I would look at Force boats from Aus, seem to be winning most of the races down under

How do you think a 20ft Bullet would go, only a few were ever made, they are a stretched 1850?

Gday bud
Yep you guys call a 2000 Bullet a streched 1850 over here it is a streched 1800
They swaped the 1800 and 1850 between Aus & NZ witch creates much confusion !
Basicly your 1850 is our 1800 & visa versa if that makes any sense.
But I am getting of track

If you can get the 2000 at the right money it would be a good thing. The only problem is they dont have a lot of freeboard but they do have good deadrise so are quite good in the rough.
The nose drops away a bit so they can be duffed if you really have a go (but then what cant ?)

If cash is no issue F21 Force is the only answer their build quality is second to none.
As much ballest as you want and where you want it as well make these things just sensational.
By the way are you a mate of Fidos

Good luck in your selections

I did manage to get hold of a Bullet 2000, I actual got Fido to make a few calls over the ditch on my behalf and everyone has given it the thumbs up.
I only picked up the boat last weekend, so I have been busy polishing and removing all non ski racing items!!

Do you think I need to put ballast tanks into it or will the bow tank (none installed but does have the mounting for one) be all that I need?

And what about engine choice 280, Promax 300 or what about the 300XS which isn't available to late Nov 06.

Yes I have been racing Fido for the past 5 years and we have had some awesome battles. He certainly nows his craft, and has taught us a lot of stuff , some the hard way ha ha.

One thing I was interested to do was try and get some orginal photos of the boat, can this be done through the rego number which has been on the boat for the last 10 years in NZ.
Cheers

Smile

Sounds good !
Fido rang me about it two or three weeks ago
I have been over there fr the Tasman challange & did some commentating so we have possably met.
I have an 1800 (your 1850) and dont think it would need balast but a small one would not hurt.
Send me a P.M with the rego number & I will see what I can find
