Are these going to be working models or display only? What sort of costs are involved?

36' Cigarette Models
The Models will be static displays, 1/87 scale. This is primarily due to displaying space considerations.
The boat will be cast in modelling resin with the most intricate parts photo etched. Judging by the manufacturers offering of Race and Rally models, the boats should be incredibly detailed for their size.

36' Cigarette Models
Onto part II,
The price? I intend to price each model as close to cost as possible. The prinicipal aim in starting this venture isn't financial gain but generating interest and demand. Why? Because, if you are interested in Offshore Racing, there is currently no possibility of obtaining scale models of your favorites boats as opposed to motoracing (four wheels) where finding your favorite Le Mans car, for instance is no problem.
How much?
Back in February, I received a quote for Black Tornado, diplayed 3/4 airborne on a stand representing the sea, in a display box featuring a brass plate with name and serial number (only 25 max) for 110 euros.
Yesterday, I contacted the manufacturers with a request for 'no-frills' versions and also kit versions to lower the cost.
I will post any news on this when available.
Thanks
Phil.

36' Cigarette Models
To illustrate my last two messages, I am attaching a picture of a model that was commissioned to the same manufacturer.
Although in this instance, wind power replaced horse power, it does give you an idea of the level of detailing involved at such a scale and the quality of the finished product.

Hi Phil,
I would be interested in a cig model for sure. Let me know how to proceed! What would be required? As many photographs as possible and a deposit??
Cheers.

Hi Nigel,
Thanks for your interest. The first one (Black Tornado) has already been documented and is ready for production.
The next step is to give the manufacturer the go ahead for the first one (the prototype) which I should be doing within the next few weeks. Once this has been done. I will post pictures of the finished article.
Then anyone interested will be able to purchase one of the 25 made.
Phil.

No idea of time scale involved at this stage but I will let you know as soon as I am aware. Price for the 'full version' in display box was 115 euros (+ pp). I am awaiting details for a 'simpler' version without display box and stand representing the sea,etc... Again, I will pass on details as they are communicated to me.
Thank you
Phil.

36' Cigarette models
I have just had an answer from the manufacturer concerning the time frame involved. It will take around three month to have the prototype done. The main reason for this extended delay is a) the intricacies of the master mold and b) potential delay due to the French holidays in July / August. Do bear in mind that everything is done by small artisanal firms. One person goes on holiday and that's it. Once this is done, the others will follow quickly.
On the plus side, there will be no problem in having the kit and 'no-frills' version made. This is providing interrested buyers with a choice of three options each at a different price (tba).
So, I have placed an order for one of each to be made. Hopefully within three month, I shall be posting pictures of each of them and take your orders.
Patience is a virtue, they say.... right now I beg to differ.
Phil.

I have made a note of that. Given your involvement with the "real one", it is fitting that you should get the No1.
By the way, this is the version chosen to be replicated.
Thank you
Phil.

I do want to run before I am able to walk but if things go well, Eraf will certainly be on the list of "to do".
