And finally.. (Thank the lord..)

Friday morning saw a “mock” start with the boats making a great sight running past the Imperial Hotel and out of the bay... Some boats continued direct to Cowes, others to local ports...

Thunderbolt, back on her trailer due to a lack of sea trials and a few teething problems, was due back at Cowes. As mentioned in previous posts, some of the boats from Torquay came storming back under their own steam, through somewhat tempestuous seas.

Back at Cowes, where it was great to see that wonderful classic Nelson hull “Horatia” along with the ever popular “Gee”, Blue Corsair and the Bertram “Paper Tiger”, there was a ceremony to re-christen Thunderbolt. The attendance list of this event was a veritable “who’s who” of powerboat racing. Mike was honoured to have Tommy Sopwith perform the ritual, with Don Shead in close attendance, Lady Aitken, Tim Powell, Dr Carlo Bonomi, Lord Beaverbrook and Sonny Levi, amongst others, nearby.

This event would, most probably, not have taken-place without the massive amount of administration, chasing and re-arranging undertaken by our brilliant Club Secretary Mr John Iddon. Thankyou John (and ‘Trina!)
...and looking rather nice in the sunshine as we left, thankyou Torquay!

A big thankyou to all involved. Really nice people. It was a pleasure, indeed an honour, to meet you all! Let’s not wait fifty years to do it again!

Lady Spitfire Pilots

Did anyone see the programme on BBC tv last night about the ATA..where WW2 fighters were delivered by WOMEN PILOTS, an amazing documentary and whose name should come up but none other than Lettice Curtis who in 1962 drove Thunderbolt with Pamela Campbell, another piece of history to log in the old girls file..

Good choice

Couldn't meet a friendlier, more deserving owner than Derek...

We'll vote for Louly!

I agree Ian !
While not authentic race colour- IMHO she looks better than when new, & I love that hull colour.
More sophisticated I think !
Never mind Graham, lots of other boats are authentic, but what the hell, the boat looks great !
Whats a colour change among friends ?

Yeah! That struck me as odd, considering his boat is like the original.

Still Martin is sucking in air enough ,to keep the ice blue painters happy.

Well... now you come to mention it...

Sorry Ian, was forgetting that you're "new this year" too

I'll get my good lady to vote for you, then that'll be fair...then the rest of the world will have to decide.

No hard feelings... (ooh, err)

All the best, Ian (finished in "this season's" colour... JCB Yellow !)
