Geoff Tobert Rip
Dear All,
We have just received news from Ray Bulman, to advise that Geoff
Tobert passed away last night. (10th September)
Geoff had of course been suffering from leukemia for some time. He
was aged 83 & would have been 84 in November.
He was the last remaining "member" of the £5 bet, for the fastest to
drive a boat from Putney to Calais, which resulted in the Putney Calais
rally & later race.
That of course led to the foundation of UKOBA.
Geoff, together with his friend of 61 years, Ray Bulman, re-enacted the
Putney-Calais run a couple of years ago in a Sovereign runabout, the
fore runner of Sunseeker.
Geoff had raced with the late Clive Curtis & was involved in the company that was the
forerunner of Cougar Marine.
The funeral will be held next Monday, 17th September, at 3.30pm
(1530hrs), at Chichester Crematorium, followed by a wake.
More details to follow.
Please advise anyone who may have known Geoff about this sad event but please remember
and celebrate Geoff Tobert and his contribution to the sport of offshore powerboating.
