old classic imfo needed please.

If i remember correct at some seaside resorts there were speedboats that seated about six or eight people they operated from the end of piers usually.
I think they had straight six jag engines were varnished and capable of about fifty mph.i dont remember any life jackets or belts and it was defenetly the louder you scream the faster we go.I cant remember the cost of a ride.
I was offered one a couple of years ago but showed no interest as i was heavily comited to Horatia.
I wondered if any members remember them or has pics or imfo many thanks.CW.

Had a trip on one from Sandown Pier in the fifties.Special treat from a visiting Uncle.Southsea had a couple `Crusader` and `Jet`.Also remember one used to roar out of Littlehampton Harbour. There must have been quite a few around. An interesting subject, but nothing in the fish files (non racing boats).I`m sure the local museums would have info on them.

My family used to run them in the 30's when we ran a Chris Craft then again in the 60's with a British built Chris Craft copy with a Perkins S6 in her. The family business was pleasure boat trips around Eastbourne Lighthouse with 55' 100 seater boats so she was the fun side of things, she was launched & recovered from the shingle beach in a cradle, I will try to find some pictures. They were always called Alacrity hence my username.
