Trust me, you would not. My family had a new Moonfleet Aquiia in Poole in the early `60`s. It was called Blue Moon and was fitted with the factory option High Performance " Raymond Mays " 6 cylinder Ford Zepher with Triple Twin Choke Carbs etc, giving 135Hp in a 15`6" boat. I very soon found out why it was also fitted with a cast Aluminium fixed Dagger fin just about mid ship.
With no speed limits in Poole Harbour then 62mph on flat water was a good speed.
However on a day out to Swanage with my future Brother-in-law on our way back a small speedboat pulled up along side and signalled for a race for which I was happy to oblige.
As we left Swanage Bay whilst at full speed, as we took off from the first wave with the prop still driving the fin cleared the water the boat took a violent turn to Port and banked to Starboard as we then went around the screw.
By the time we realised what had happend we had overtaken the same speedboat which had been on our port side only to have passed him again on the port side but this time in the opposite direction as we had spun right around his Bow. And you want to fit a V8 !! Good Luck.
