Racer's Meeting

With the first race now less than a month away it's about time we all had a catch up to bring everyone up to speed on the year and see how you're all getting on!
We'll be meeting at the bottom bar of the De La Rue at 8pm on the 24th April (this tuesday).

All teams really need to come along please, preferably both of you but at least one per team if some can't make it.
If you're thinking of racing, even later in the year, please come along so we can go through training dates etc with you, there's only two.
If you're currently helping us, would like to help or know someone who may, please come along so we can meet you and get an idea of numbers for Guard boats, turn boats and other helpers!

While you're still there (I hope!), we really need timekeepers & note takers! If we can get a few people on board to do this then we'll only need a person to do a race or two! We can't race without them and it'd be a shame to keep bringing people across for these positions from the UK, costing us all money!

See you all on Tuesday!

Larby

Please take this very seriously and be sure you are ready !! If you can, try and run as a mock race to avoid the shambles we had at our first event. Possibly the most embarrassing i have seen.

Dunno, but I'm told part of the safety kit for scrutineering now includes a pair of boxing gloves and a gum shield!

With the new handicap system being introduced, the first race is a qualifier which will also give everyone a chance to get used to the different start style (though it is incredibly simple!)
Those who feel they'll really struggle to understand it (and so probably shouldn't be out in public), are welcome to come along to the training day the day before the event and join us for the training starts.

The second race of the day on the sunday will be the first to count towards the championship.

With the whole series being privately filmed, a BBC presenter commentating and the BBC also apparently now wanting to film too, I'll be making sure there's no farces going on!! We're all mates here, so no need for punchups!!

How many runners and riders do you have for this season?
Good luck!

We're looking at starting the season with about 12-15 boats and ending up with 15-20 all being well. That's being conservative too, if they're not basically ready to go they don't count.
Should be good though, great to see the sport back to the same strength as in the 90's again, especially given the current climate. I'm really trying to step it all up a level and get us back in the public eye, I've got lots of plans such as kiddie's classes/training in the model yacht pond to look to develop the sport and ensure a constant supply of new racers!

Here's to a great year!

James

Thanks for the kind words guys, it's a strain when you're 27 and skint but I love it really!

No less than 15 teams came along to the meet tonight, what an awesome turnout!!

Big parade for liberation day on may 9th, 12 boats all done up with bunting etc with 10,000 expected in town for the day, what a great chance for promotion of the sport!!

Bob, Len had promised me ages ago that he'd call you, evidently he hasn't. I'll chase him for you today. Still keen on coming over?

Just goes to show the sport still has it if the organisers put in the effort! Maybe if the handicap system works as well as expected over here it could bring back the UK basic scene too?

James

I'll second that, bit of a hike for us though but certainly sounds like it would be worth it!

You'd get to experience Les Follies D'Amour on a Sunday night, there's nothing quite like it...
