1.3L in a frode

just figuring out the best way to start powerboat racing cheapish. the old 1.3 class looks good is it still runing etc. reaserched a bit on boatmad and there seems to be lots of talk of forming one? if there was what boat would run well in a 1.3 class? and is all the racing in the south as i am based in liverpool and rib and sail out of pwllheli. thanks

You should chat with that Ribbing turncoat, John Kennett! He's just boaught a perfect 1.3 hardboat, a Phantom 16/85 Yamaha.

Come to think of it, he didn't go anywhere near a rib on the June Poker run either! stayed well & trully glued in the Solents finest 'hards'.

Mebbe you two ribnobbas could get summat going.

As roofer says there's a lot of club racing near you Carr Mill is excelent.

We're bringing our 1.3 etec series up to chase water which is not too far away, but the rest are either in Kent, Cardiff or here in Poole.

If you want to race in a National series 1.3 OCR is for ski boats - Bob Mcarthy (OCRDA on here) is the guy to ask!

thanks for all the info some of the club racing looks good but i havent had any experience with hydroplane style boats and like the rough a bit so il have to have a think about what i can fit into with what i have in mind lo. thanks

You race nearly any boat at club level it doesn't have to be a hydroplane, I used to race a p18 with a 2.5 efi in super clubman and others race p16's with smaller engines.

cool. i happen to know of a frode that i might beable to get my hands on and from what iv read if yur totaly comited then you can drive them fast.

So which Frode is for sale ? Is it the old one I used to drive for Charles Burnett, a yellow 19, if so I would also be interested in it if you decide not to buy it. As you say you do need to be commited to run one hard in the rough, if you back off in a following sea it will definately stuff, into a head sea they are terrific as they just chop off the tops of the waves giving a level, but very wet ride. Might even consider 1.3L again myself if there was some competion, about the only cheap class left.

i dont know yet havent seen it. going to have a look soon. just out of intrest and for club racing. what were the transoms rated for HP wise. as iv been told with a 90 on the back il be a little slow for club racing.

our etecs hit about 50mph with 2 up in offshore condiitions on the back of a p16, how slow did you think it would be?

im guessing (ohh no) flat out 60ish i mean i know sarah donahu had one at something silly like 84mph but in the confinds of somewhere like carr mil dam i doubt that would be atainable and the boat would be set up more for acceleration than top end. iv been told it would be a little big for inshore where i want to race but i would like to step out and do some offshore as well. like pwllheli as thats where i sail and rib.
