300 (xs?)

Hi there.
A friend of mine just purched a 19 foot Campion Chase (2000) with a 300 hp Mercury (I belive it's a XS, but there is only a "X" on the decail)

It is fitted with a standard propeller and he want's a stainless instead.
What would be a god "alround" propeller for it.
He's not looking to go racing, but just want's to get the most out of the motor, instead off the 'standard' propeller??

Cheers

Mercury made a 300X before the XS, its a 3.0 L race engine and was a far better engine than the XS.

Need more details to answer your question, what pitch is the prop on it now and what rpm is it running at?

Trophy is a pretty good all rounder! Is the prop surfacing?

Well, what do you know - I wasn't awere of that?!

I will have to ask him what propellerpitch is on now, but it's not a 'surf' piercing prop now.

Guess I will have to get the correct info before talking up to much of people's time

Ok, personal opinion! But not too fond of the XS. I just think the X was a better engine.

300xs

of course the 300x is a far better engine than the 300xs, except in the fuel consumption department. more powerful and much more reliable. and the savings which you make in the fuel consumption with the 300xs are negated by the number of coils and air compressors which you will have to buy

You are right as for power and magnificient song the 300x is a great engine but it is a pig when it comes to fuel consumption.

I have read about problems with the xs but always thought they were related to batteries, maintenance and wrong oil..? I have a xs (smaller) and have not had any problems - had it since new but have not put very many hours on it yet. Are there quality/design issues with the 300xs?
