"It's great to know we will have them on the transom soon"
Bet they wont be on there for long on some boats if they weigh as much as i think they will! they look massive!

5.3 ltr! JEEEZ!!
i recon our engine would use less fuel then that, and that weighs double what our 355 does.
think it will be a o.k engine for a 30+ footer though(twins)
Whats the benifits of 4 stroke over 2 stroke?
why arnt 2 stroke engines used as inboards and linked upto sterndrives?

That's comparing the opposite ends of the market.
The 300 viagra, a more direct competitor, weighs 635lbs, 0.47hp/lb
The yammie is 0.435hp/lb
And the old favourite honda 225 delivers 0.383hp/lb
So in 4 stroke terms it's fairly competive weight wise.
In a 30' boat with a pair of motors where you're unlikely to worry about the weight difference too much, do you want 600hp or 700?

I thought my old 3.4L merc was big - That thing looks huge!!
Surley its all about power to weight ratios though even on a big boat. I cant imagine that engine ever being used for any kind of performance application other than on one of those effin big rubber dinghies!

I'd quite fancy a pair on a sonic 33 instead of the usual triple 200's.
Would go pretty well with that setup.

Not sure. That was the best looking one I ever found, was in 2003 when I bought the formula instead. IIRC was about $30K but the vendor was an idiot - I sent him a mail asking for more details, 1st line of his response - "SEND MONEY".
With triple 200's they run about 62mph and burn 60GPH - but the cabin is HUGE.

would 2x300 hp engines be faster? due to being less weight, less drag etc?
also would the burn less fuel?
how much fuel does ur boat burn at 50ish mph and at wot?

It guess it's be a bit quicker, plus it'd handle better.
But twin 350's would be better.
What about triple 350's.
I dunno how much it burns at 50. I always reckoned on 1mpg at 62ish & 3mpg at 33 ish.

Do I reckon a formula would be quicker with a pair of 350 outboards over inboards? Never really considered it to be honest, but I guess it might since 330hp inboards are a crank optimstic rating and the 350 should be a on the propshaft
