she goes very well, very light and very quick off the mark with a yam 130 and cheep on petrol compaired. only other race boat i have had is a phantom 18 with a merc xr2 i would say speed was about the same but the abcast 17 (17.5) handels much better, feels safer so you can keep your foot down longer. i love it, very sexy in person too, nice shapes. good job to andy barnett

Must be one hell of a boat if it out performs a Phantom 18 !

well did in my oppinion, could just be how the phantom was set up? every wave you hit in the phantom felt like you were going to die, always pitched to the right too never managed to sort that problem. abcast feels safer to me and more controled

IMHO a poor setup - also comparing an XR2 with a Yam 130 isn't any sort of comparison is it?

depends what your comparing..., sizes of boat 17.5 and 18 (about the same) and speeds both around the 60 mark so yes i think you can compare them.
means the abcast gets to 60 with less effort than my phantom did even with more power. The set up cant have been miles out as we took it from a guy that used to race and do well in it.

just because i used my phantom to compare it to does not meen i dont like phantoms, im a big fan so i hope people who have phantoms dont take it personally or get too upset.

It is a cracking boat with lots of potential and would make a really good OCR boat with the 130 Yam !! XR2 to 130 Yam in OCR was on average of 4mph faster on lap times so yes quite a good comparison really !! Not to mention the reliability !!

Bob, I don't think so with the lap times. When the xr2 was running the courses were twice the size and lapping 1.8 boats. Also according to andy the weekend the were only homologated to run 1.3.

Work it out 4mile course Xr2 lapped 1.8 in an hour = 4mph !! on a 2 mile course they lapped the 1.8's approx 1 1/2 times = 3mph !!
The rules changed when we went back to 1.8 to a min length of 5.25mtrs specifically to allow Andy to race it in 1.8 !!

Formulas are great. I think we'll agree to disagree on this. When the last of the 2 litre's where running they were more than 4 seconds a lap in front and I think most people who saw those races and took part will say the same.

ANYWAY.........its a nice boat and time till tell how things go. within the next year or so you should have had the chance to see them in person.
I know there are lots off petrol head boffins in here so I look forward to some constructive criticism, help and tips on set up and fine tuning will be welcome.....lets see what we can make it do!
Having a new boat in production and out blasting about can only be a good thing cant it???

thanks to all for their comments.

Burty.... never knew what speed she did as all gauges were shagged so could only guess. no whay mid 70's maybe we got mid 60's we did have a nice serface peircing prob but pritty sure it was bigger than 18p think it may have been 22??? could be wrong was back in 1997 when i was 17, no money to invest back into the boat and with no internet or forums very few people to ask about things so was tricky times. i know we spent more time on the slipway with engine probs than we did on the water but prob down to me being skint and not spending money i should have done. but never the less great times were had!

will try scan a pic or 2..........na not working guess image is too big
