Advice on a Ring 18.

I have recently bought a Ring 18 as I raced behind it in the early 80s. After getting her home I have realised that the hull is in worse shape than I first feared. It has the worst hand paint job I have ever seen, fear paint was put on with a trowel.
I have found some routine holes that need filling, also a bit of delamination on the screen which does not worry me that much, a bit of the floor needs cut out and replaced as its rotten.
The most worrying bit is she is covered in star crazing and I mean the deck is covered, so are the sides. I have never done anything with this amount of work before so thought I would ask the knowledgeable people on here before I go any further.

Am I mad to be attempting this? Is my heart ruling my head, would love to restore back to its former glory but feel it could be way out of my league.

Hope someone can help

I have a ring 18 here that has similar gel damage, but its chemical damage or bad gelcoat, not stress damage. Ended up painting the deck to sort it out.

That French footballer Riberie was interviewed and they asked him about the scars on his face from a car crash when he was young, did it effect him ?

His answer was "He war his scars with pride"

So any old race boat is going to have some stress marks.

My Ring 18 has some crazing on her part of her deck but not on the hull. Although mine is still in her original gel coat of white decks and orange hull/cockpit it is on the orange gel coat on the front screen that is showing the crazing - all other areas are solid. As Hydrostream says, it is only the gel coat, the glass underneith is sound.

Sorry, cant get you any photos at the moment since I am no were near the boat
