B23 Canopy

Are new/used canopies still available? Are there any noticeable running differences between the enclosed and open cockpit B23s?

An enclosed cockpit is generally less windy

Thanks, but how do the two models compare? Are there any noticeable running differences, etc.

In my opinion, a canopied B-23 that is designed and built with a canopy from scratch, like Scottys would be extremely good, with no air being sucked down into an open cockpit. Not so much a retro fit job, which can badly alter the weight and balance overall. The other thing is that canopies tend to make the crew feel invincible, thereby occasionally leading to a point where they either outdrive the boat or their own ability, and have a bigger accident than they would have had if they could feel the wind and spray etc.
There are arguments for and against from a safety point of view and I wont bore you with those, there are those who would never go back to an open boat, and there are those, including current and recent world champions who would never get into a canopied boat for their own reasons....

Each to his / her own and I think the choice should remain..
