Overall length

Bernico at the Worlds !!
He built a boat to length and then added a 'bathing platform' on the end that was another 4ft long.
This covered the drive as the Banana shark does.
Problem with the Bernico was that Nico decided not to waste the extra length and put a ballast tank in it

The boat was weighed after one of the races and came in at 3400kg's.
Try skiing past that!
You can see in the pics that when this boat lands the rear platform makes contact with the water and helps to flaten the wake.

There are still length discussions going on about this at World level but I am sure the this boat is banned form competing again.

1) I'm sure the whole idea of this beast is that NO skier even remotely gets the chance to ski PAST that boat
2) How can a platform , even the lower ones used in conjunction with the Trimax Drives make the slightest bit of difference to the wake ??????

Cyco,
I think you will find that the platform has nothing to do with it, it is the shape of the rear of the planning suface and the massive trim tabs where the problem lies.
Got any photos of the rear surface?

Thought this was extremely interesting as I had not realised the implications of various exotic materials on durability plus long term visual appearance but this thread here makes an interesting read ...

http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/g...r-opinion.html

The Dragon boat was built from Epoxy resin, Kevlar, carbon–fiber, E–glass hybrids and knitted fiberglass cloth so I assume it was as hard as nails with no flex as mentioned in the above thread

Dragon boat design ...

http://gulfcoastboatingcenter.com/dr...s_release.html

Is the New 34' going to be built using conventional materials, or the more exotic stuff mentioned above

It is an interesting one (build techniques). I have seen/helped out with a lot of racing yacht builds and modifications, and the builds seem more complex on average. i.e vacume bagging epoxys and all the above seem more common in yacht builds than than in powerboat builds.

We will be using nothing more exotic that Aramat which is the same material that went into Swipewipes along with regular polyester resin. Make it too stiff and that can cause big problems over a long period of race use. We will probably be using foam longitudinals and wooden engine bearers and transom.

A few more photos to show what's been happening recently - the hull is now covered with shiny white stuff (stuck 9on with spray on contact adhesive) and the spray rails have been fitted.

Hey, I thought you boys reckoned Aramat was a waste of time & money? You gave it a slaggin when I turned up with that as spec for Swipes.

I agree it's great news to hear that BananaShark have been commissioned to build another boat and as I seem to remember Cookee working on his 34'Tri therefore it seems like good business sense, I assume this is the boat Cookee had talked of on another thread with the possibility of fitting Merc 525hp engines with speeds in the 90'smph region ... Is this boat intending to spend most of it's time in the UK racing marathon, as in the linked thread he talks of UK waters, or will it at some point contest the SuperSport P1 racing events
