As an incentive to new offshore boats, I will be offering £50 start money for every BASIC boat that enters this event. ie every boat in which the crew either have an event licence, or who have the 2007 annual BASIC licence.
( so this will exclude National Championship Licence holders )
To qualify, you must enter, go to muster, start the race correctly and pass the first turn bouy. That will make you eligible for the money on offer from me.
Additionally, any entrant who needs a race club to apply for their licence - the V24 Powerboat Club ( RYA affiliated ) is still offering the £10 Racing Membership class for 2007, and I will still pay for any additional crew members fee's so you only have to pay one membership fee per boat, and all crew will get their annual membership.

Basically, anyone can race a boat at a BASIC event.
If you have never raced before, you need to buy an 'event licence' which can be done on the day. To make things easier for the organisers it is always nicer to enter in advance!
If you buy two 'event' licences, then you have to upgrade to a 'national basic' licence, which would include a medical. Not much more money to upgrade, as you get credit for the two 'events' you have gone to before.
You also need to be a member of an RYA affiliated club.

regarding the boat for hire (Avago Racing)I would reccomend it to someone who wants to try racing with a view to doing it permantly or even if you want to See what OCR is like.Until May the 5th I hadn't raced but I was trying to get into it.I contacted Bob .Ocrda which incidently is a website aswell and he mentioned Boat A25 a PHANTOM 19 and Yamaha 130 and a race at Plymouth .I went to Plymouth met Bob and the rest of the club members was breifed and I navigated in the boat whilst James McGing was the driver. What an amazing couple of days I had Got to try racing learnt what was expected of a navigator and now Im looking forward to my next race at Teignmouth.

Renting a boat is probably the easiest way of 'trying the water' so to say and with Bob/OCRDA and us doing it gives a great opportunity which has never been had before.
If ya like a 'try before you buy' same as you would if you were buying a car.
With the classes offered it also provides a controlled exposure too so people don't go buying the biggest/fastest rig going then racing without any experience what so ever. It would be good to see other classes providing this opportunity to allow racers to progress up.

As I will not be at the event on Monday, I will get a list of names and addresses from OCRDA for all those who qualify for START MONEY, and I will send a cheque first class recorded on Tuesday.

Hi verytricky, I raced the Teignmouth ocrda basic on monday in a Phantom 21, and paid £270 in total. I think paying this amount will put a lot of people off.
My helmets went missing, we found them in the back of another racers van and to make matters worse, he was the scrutineer.
The boat was scrutineered when neither I, or my navigater were present, we did not even get a briefing.
The boat was the slowest I've ever known during the race and dont know why yet.
We were told our helmets were no good and they gave us some spares, one of them was impossible to see out of which gave everyone a late start.

Hmmm, that's a shame Teignmouth is such a good venue too.
If ya near Chasewater on the 16/17th June come and have a look at the 1.3L racing there with the new E9000. It may not be 1.8L, however, all the boats have brand new engines due to class being experimental this year.

Hi, I will PM you in a few minutes.....
My first race was the National Championships in Ramsgate, and I had my hand held by Pete Little and looked after very well by Anne Robinson and helped along by Chris Strickland. Everything was done for me, and I was helped solve every problem with no stress or issue, they just made things work for me. It was a wonderful first race ( on the land! )
So I do not know how it is for others.
I can only appologise for things not going right for you. I am not part of OCRDA, and I was not at the event, so I can not really be of assistance for that race.
HOWEVER!
I have been thinking for a while now that there needs to be some sort of assistance to new BASIC drivers, as they will become the next set of National Championship drivers.
Perhaps we can look at some form of simulation race, so people can see what to expect before they arrive at the actual race.
I will check to see which is the next BASIC race that I will be supporting, and we can make sure that I am there to help as well as making some arrangements before hand. I will try and make sure that things work more smoothly at the next race I help with sponsorship!

I'm not going to comment on the OCRDA organisation, but as racers we know that starting out racing can be very daunting. There are loads of things that need remembering before you get on the water. All of the teams involved in offshore have said that any new teams starting to race can, if they want, have for want of a better word a mentor to help them find their feet. They can pair off with an established crew and shadow them untill they feel competant to do it on their own. This can include pre season work as well, regarding type of equipment needed, paperwork etc etc. They only have to ask.

The other idear being bandied around is that during a new teams first season they should have free entry to national events. All the infrastructure is allready there for the race and paid for by the existing fleet, so one or two more boats for the crane would not make any difference. It would help teams no end saving approx £1200 in the first season and hopefully have them comming back for more the following one. Only an idear at the moment, but who knows.
