Ben Mazur R.I.P.
Heard the sad news this morning of the passing of Ben Mazur. He died yesterday evening (12.45 local time-Virginia) aged 60.
Those who knew Ben will remember an unbelievably passionate powerboat racing fan/racer/historian, who had knowledge of the sport, and of sport boating in general that was pretty much unequaled.
His wife Miarka died only a couple of years ago.
His daughter Amanda posted the sad news on FB.

Very sorry to hear that - I wasn't even aware he was ill - he was a character and I know the powerboat racing community will be poorer without him - condolences to his family.

Very sad & unexpected news.
Will remember Ben when he was involved with UKOBA, & his passion for powerboats will be long remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
RIP.

Ben RIP
Ben had a keen sense of humour as many of his posts on here and other boating forums will show.
My condolences to Amanda from not just me, but from all that organise Cowes, an Event that I know Ben loved.

Really sad news and a big shock as Ben always seemed so full of life and enthusiasm.
One of the really nice guys in powerboating and will be very much missed.

Hi All,
This is Amanda, Ben's daughter. Thank you for your responses. Ciao, who are you on the outside? As you remember me
He passed quietly. It was pretty quick - but, he is with my mother now who passed away in October of 2011.
The link to his obituary is here:

The good news is I just inherited a 1980 Excalibur. I went down to the dock and started it up yesterday, loudest thing on the Chesapeake I think. I'm going to be shipping it down to Charleston and keeping the ol' money pit.
I'll keep any eye on this thread, but again, thank you. And thanks Jon for posting.
Amanda Mazur

Also. I don't seem to have the correct info for Alan Goodwin. Does anyone have that, and if so can they email me? (amanda.mazur@benefitfocus.com).
And... Rob Andrews.

Hi Amanda,
Sorry to hear about your dad, he was a real gent and will be sorely missed by all.
Will always remember him rocking up to work at RYB Windsor every day in that lovely Merc 190 Cosworth he had and there was never a dull day sat in the office with him reminiscing about the Velocity days.
Mum and dad pass their best wishes.
James, Richard and Jane Lumley.

R.I.P. Ben
Sad day to hear the news about my friend Ben, he was a real character.
Ben got John and I into racing in 1995 with Sidewinder, had a few good years doing that, I think!.
I remember Ben ringing me up one day in 98 and asking if I wanted to drive the Reefer in a race with him on the throttle. Having heard a few misplaced horror stories about how twitchy that boat could be at speed, I asked him if I could have some driving practice before the race to get used to it. He said "yep, can do that", "great" I said, "when?", he said "Sunday, driving to the start line".
Happy days.
Best wishes to you Amanda.

Ben
On behalf of all the guys inclulding the 6 pack we would like to send our condolences on this sad news. Ben will always be remembered for the UKOBA days and the days the Six Pack where around. We remeber Amanda as a young girl who came to races with her Dad. The Safety Gang.
