Bernico F2 Extreme Build

A couple of weeks ago I went to Belgium to pick up Bob McCarthy's F2. We've been busy since so I thought I'd chuck some pics up and keep the thread updated as we rig it over the next couple of weeks

In Portsmouth on the way home from an 800 mile trip!

Removing the vinyl wrap

Wrap and glue residue all removed.

We flipped it over to fill all the chips and dings accumulated over the past few years

Final step was some high build primer, lots of flatting running up the grades to 500 grit ready for some black 2 pack paint

With the bottom painted we loaded it back onto the trailer, and set about giving the whole boat a flush skim of filler to smooth out where tiny sections of paint were pulled off when removing the wrap. This was a really crappy labour intensive job, as it all had to be blocked and sanded flat by hand, before the whole lot was hit with 500 grit again on the DA sander. Then it was into my brother's work for the re-wrap in metallic black vinyl, which he finished today

A quick photoshop of the basic graphic job that's going on, there'll hopefully be loads of sponsors on the bow!!

Cheers guys

I've got some black Tessilmare rubstrip on order, the plastic moulding goes on first and is then completely covered by the 40mm rubber, meaning we can run the graphics over the top and the boat will look virtually seamless

Bugger! It's all paid for and on the way! Between what you have and my left overs there'll easily be enough for 2 boats so we could put it up for sale on here and split the price accordingly?

Got some better pics just now as we moved it back into the vinery to get it nice and warm to set the wrap well

Hi Charlie, pretty much any colour is available. Not sure on the price to be honest with you as my brother did it and I got the vinyl through his work at trade price.

If you're interested at all pop down to Dowding Signs and speak to Dave or Neil, they'll be able to give you a quote

Saddle reinforcements!

Finished shaping the 10mm thick reinforcement plates tonight that will hopefully stop the saddle from crapping out again...

My brother turned some round ali bar down until it's a precise fit, this will be welded in first

These 2 plates will be welded in next, there's a 1/4" overhang for a nice fillet weld.

The other plate in the top picture will then be bent and welded over the top of the saddle, and one more plate will be made up for the side to join all the pieces together. These, combined with the stiffened engine mounts and Mayfair steering should hopefully do the trick! If not it'll be bungeed again to catch it

Got the rubstrip fitted in the week

Yesterday was spent making a template for a wing plate to fit the Mayfair ram

It tucks nicely under the cowl, and gives a good lock left and right. Cutting the slot was a bugger as I had to make a whole new template, and then trim it to fit inside, mark the cowl, drill some holes and try and cut a straight line on a curved surface with the jigsaw... it worked though!

While I was working Nick from Fusion Engineering dropped off my saddle pieces, to say I'm happy with the welding is an understatement!

I cleaned up the edges with a flap wheel and made sure the inside part was all flush to avoid any contact when trimming and tilting. Left the welds on the outside alone though

Need to paint the buggers tomorrow then I can get the mid section all bolted up to the transom and get the powerhead on this week, and we're on the home straight!
