Yet again, Boat Mad gets used for people to have a general joke and take the piss ... it would be nice if you could actually get some help here and not just pointless banter. I guess I'll have to ask this question elsewhere. Not trying to be rude or upset anyone, but this always happens everytime I ask a question and it's incredibly frustrating.

I think you asked for people to take the piss. Those who could help you prolly would not help after your post. Just my opinion of the matter......

See your Bournemouth way I would have thought fine in the Harbour but would be pretty uncomfortable most average days in poole bay due to the flat hull design of the types you mention. None are noted for their seakeeping ability. As your boarding or skiing and be around people in the water I'd only entertain a jet from a safety point of view

great boats if you intend to use them on a Lake. Also very expensive boats.
Are you looking for something PURELY for wakeboarding or do you want something to nob about in also?

My alternative......half the cost....much more fun......:

I did have a look, but like you say, he only seems to have very expensive Mastercrafts for sale. There are a couple of Malibus on ebay that look ok, I read on the net that there weren't as well built as Mastercrafts, but then I suppose that will be reflected in the price. Wondered if anyone had had any first hand experience with either makes so could warn me what to look out for .. and yes, I want a specific boat just for wakeboarding. Thanks.

I agree with Gav and Tony, mastercraft and alike are only for lakes, I would buy something like a rinker or bayliner or similar with a tower for wakeboarding. I'm not sure but I think you can get ballast tanks to go in these to fill up to make the boat heavier to push the wake up.

Do you say that because the hull is flat and they would be uncomfortable in the sea, or is there problems with being in salt water? The engines are the same/similar to mine ...

Sorry I meant the hulls on Mastercrafts etc not Rinkers .. I did think about this option but want a boat that will produce a good wake.

Biggest Arms.....

Try the boating section on the wakeboard forum at http://www.wakeboard.com/wakechat/

There have been quite a few discussions about the pros/cons of using a pure wakeboard boat in the sea and there is always good advice available.

The guy who runs the forum has recently gone through the same thought processes you have been having and ended up buying a Mastercraft Maristar which is a more sea specific wakeboard boat.

Hope the above is useful.

Squadron 59 was excellent though a tad of overkill and you needed a long rope
(flipent comment )

I have some mates back in Essex who get their kicks from being dragged around in circles on the Crouch/Blackwater standing on either one or two planks of wood. Never seen the point myself but I digress. They have a 22ft Cobalt 227. Nice boat, Deep Vee so will handle a chop, plenty of power (5.7 VP Duoprop) and seems to do the job for wakeboarding/skiing as well.

The Cobalt is a US boat and looks well put together. The engine is a Vulva and has caused problems. The dealer, somewhere up norf has been less than helpful. Prior to the Cobalt they had variously a Fletcher 21 and a Glastron 19ft. Glastron was a bit light but with a bigger than std engine in it went well.

Of course when you get your wakeboarding boat you must ensure you get a silly tower thingie to give that high tow and to strap your boards to. Personally I think its all about really wanting a RIB and A Frame........................

Errr yeah, I really want a rib, cos they make such great clean wakes and I love being flung out into the sea.

Thanks for the input. However, can you tell me which is better out of the 3 named makes I mentioned before? When I say better, I mean, what is the wake like, what is the build quality like, performance, specifications etc etc ... thanks.

I think wake chat is probably the more suited place for this question, just I know BM does have a wide range of boating enthusiats of which someone might have first hand experience with such boats.

You really do lack social skills don't you? My comments, albeit a little tongue in cheek, were supposed to be a little helpful. Clearly wasted on you. Go buy a Mastercraft. And grow up.

I don't really use this forum to socialise or make friends... I asked a specific question and I hoped I might get a specific answer, but all I get is other info that I don't need/want. You are the person mocking my hobbyand saying its pointless and I lust after RIBs, what sort of reaction do you expect? If you want to joke about your own mates fair enought, but to people you don't know you should show some respect. Maybe its you who should grow up.

I'll ask the question again ...

Does anyone know what the differences are in terms of build quality etc between Mastercrafts/Malibu/Air Nautiques?
