Class 1

Hi everyone,

Long time no speak!

Hope everyone is enjoying the summer powerboat action. Plenty to get your teeth into.

Did anyone see the results from Class 1 over the weekend. Changing of the guard possible with Victory off the pace.

Team Abu Dhabi power past defending champs | Richard Carr Racing

Victory were in an older leased boat for some unknown reason, given that have shed fulls of the things in Dubai. Hardly an impressive fleet though and a sad reflection on where the top level of this sport has gone.

Hi Pete,

I couldn't understand why they were using a leased boat? Why, unlike all the other teams, didn't they have a new one for the new season? Like you say though, a sad reflection of what the top level of powerboating looks like, but how much longer will it remain the pinnacle?

At this rate, not much longer!

Richard

With Victory, you can never be sure whether it's a new boat or an old one recycled! The lease deal makes no sense at all, unless it evolved at the last minute becuase a desperate promoter twisted their arms to bolster that sad field.

As for the declining numbers, if you are a privateer, no matter how well heeled, why would you want to compete against teams owned/sponsored by a nation or a government? You'd never outspend them!

Very sad, indeed. Just five boats in the top class and two belong to one team. Think the UIM needs to reinvent the Class. Probably best to disband it and start again. I prefer watching the XCAT's at the moment and even the P1s are pretty competitive.
