I'll have to agree with you on that Bob, BUT as per other threads the blame must go back to the powers that be for allowing them surely?

well considering there are clubs without any classes that put races on and don't get the support from the sport currently, I don't think its those that are looking to the future that restrict/stopping people coming in to or back to the sport.

Evolution and progression is needed in all sports and some people like the idea of 'new' yet there are those that prefer the established it's just putting the right people in touch with the right clubs/classes when the question is asked.

In all fairness. Some of these link's are yacht clubs, sepa as I understand is more event organising and race under existing race series, some are enthusiast clubs.

Well when the 'powers that be' get 18 X £300+, 6 X £65 and 3 X £45 plus event licences too might be an answer, or the fact that perhaps like all things if it works they don't try and fix it........

SEPA is committed to organising sustainable racing. We want to encourage potential competitors from a wide audience of spectators that attend races, that's why Harwich will be advertised in July in the slot before 'Coronation Street', which is expensive, but doesn't just appeal to the powerboat converted. We think it's worth the expense, to promulgate powerboating.

Tom Downey described to me tonight the crowd numbers and parties from the Round Ireland. Fantastic and great applause to Dennis and Justin.

Several of the current subsidised engine classes are probably non-sustainable and we need to revert to the traditional RYA national classes, but well organised and with good fun.

Change the rules to keep up, but no more introductions of 'whim' classes.

The thing is Paul if I started a thread titled 'let's rip the arse out of various clubs and say what we really think' then no-one would post would they? Instead they hijack other threads with subtle digs and comments which are really uneccesary. It's all about bums on seats and racers should have the choice offshore/circuit, fast/faster, old school/new technology, green or just plain old dirty, but none the less a choice. And the fact that a newer club may be doing well shows that it is where their members want to be, after all no-one forces them to chose that club. It actually doesn't matter if a race has 6 or 60 entrants as long as they enjoy themselves. If as many people who post/read this forum actually got off their arse and raced then the sport would be thrithing. Let's start encouraging our racers.
And for the record the definition of whim is a sudden thought or desire....if only planning a class/club/event was that easy!

No problem J & D.
We've got more pressing things to do anyway, than concern ourselves with the infighting that causes so much negativity within this, once loved, sport.
As you know, my thoughts have always been that we should develop and improve what already exists, not just keep increasing the layers. It's the only way to provide measured growth and sustainablility.
