I know of my own boat which is the old 35 Cigarette
BENIHANA. It is going to Ireland for sure, because both the boat and I won the Irish Bushmills Whiskey sponsored race.
The boat won it with Hal Sahlman in 1975 and Rocky Aoki in 1976. I won the race with my own
Top Banana, 1979. My win was the last win for the trophy....they stopped sponsorship after that and brought the trophy back to Northern Ireland.
Richie Powers and Bobby Saccenti have also expressed an interest in coming over for the Cowes event and I would go on to that event with the
BENIHANA also.
I may also have a new 41 foot Banana Boat race boat, that I would enter in the Cowes event for my sons.
There is another member with a 38 foot Scarab that has expressed interest also.
As you all know, Michael Aronow is a member of the
HORBA board and I would love to see him make the trip. He and Knocky House were in charge of transporting Don's boats all over Europe, while Don challenged for the World Championship. He always spoke highly of Cowes and I know it would warm his heart greatly if he were to return one more time.....especially for the 50th.
And of course.....I will do my best to get one of our other board members to bring his pride and joy......Barry Cohen, the proud owner of
GHOST RIDER.
