I think I do remember Dateline Bikinis, I think they looked a bit like a Picton with no polycarbonate windscreen. Now this is only a guess I stress but on a search I found http://www.datelinemarine.com worth an email to see if they may have built your boat, they are in business 25 years + according to their website.

Thanks a lot for the tip! Do you know which number it was in? Do you know if this is a worldwide magazine or if it is only published in UK? Thanks a lot!

I have an old dateline burried behind some junk behind my garage. I think it has an address on the model plate. I shall have to double check.

dateline

Hi there,

As a fellow owner of a Dateline Bikini (soon to be sold, but got a Bounty sitting here too), I've found a few bits and pieces out.

The Dateline Marine you'll find on a google search actually make remote control boats, although it is still technically the same company. I contacted the current owner and he said he bought it some time ago and still has all the original Dateline designs/drawings/etc. My father actually had a Dateline Bikini in the 70s, and I remember a brochure offering 4 or 5 models. There was a 14ft Suva, the 16ft Bikini, the 18ft Bounty and I think a tiny little 12ft one (can't remember the model name). They all look pretty similar and hardly differ across the twenty or so years they were produced. I think they were based in Southampton (might be wrong here), and the owner of the boatyard I slip mine at reckons they used to test their boats in Yarmouth.

I have a real soft spot for these classic boats, owned quite a few of 'em. I really like the jet driven units (only Bikinis and Bountys had this option) and regularly find myself searching the classifieds for them.

Back in the early 70,s i bought a Dateline Suva at the boatshow and put a 80hp merc on it ...was a good little ski boat and was fairly quick.
Raced it a few times but could,nt compete with the phantom 16 with 85 hp yamaha,s
At the time the bounty was the ultimate ski boat if you excluded the Mastercraft & ski nautiques
You still see them for sale on ebay now & again
