Mm not the best place for diving to salvage that boat! right in shipping lane for southampton.

I just had a look at 50 46.325 N 001 11.698 W on google earth. alot of sunbathes on stokes bay must of seen it happen. yet i was at lee on solent and the seas looked fair for possible boat to leap out at speed, having said that i do recall looking out that way and watching a Cowes week regatta race going on in that area too! i pulled up on the grass bank in the shelby and my wife sat and had a picnic also talking to a chap with a off road buggy about how come the bost race sits right on the shipping lanes in front of ryde and stokes bay! it must of been a good east wind as all had there Kites up in that area yet infront of cowes it looked slow.

My thoughts as i heard it on the news was that they hit the submarine defence cables! Not so!

What ever happened i feel for them unless they were messing about!

R just read it was at night! Mm i guess abit of Alc helped them keep warm, but then weve all dunit.

What are submarine defence cables? I'm guessing cables to stop unwanted subs cruising up the solent?? Google doesn't seem to answer my question on it!

They aren't actually cables, just submarine defences - they have them in Plymouth to the West of Drakes island as well.

That's a pretty strong accusation to make!

I doubt it was the submarine barrier they hit if they were travelling to Portsmouth from Cowes as the barrier is to the East of Portsmouth, you can see it at low water springs from Southsea, but if they were heading for Langstone or Chichester out of channel it could well be the barrier they hit.
I have not checked the lat & long but will do next time I'm near a chart.

Hope all aboard are unhurt and no worse for wear from the ordeal, shame about the boat.

I saw Deep Purple moored up next to the Ferry Boat Slip at Langstone Harbour/Hayling on Saturday afternoon. It is stored in the yard there.

Lovely looking boat. Shame this has happened. Hope everyone is OK.
