Hi everyone.

Im new here. I have just bought this 17ft hull and was wondering if anyone on here knows what it is!

Looks like a Shetland or Picton, I am sure someone on here will know for sure

There is a very similar looking Shetland, called a Sheltie, I think. But it has the cathedral type hull without the clinker effect which mine has. I have seen some boats with similar topsides but, so far, I haven't seen anything that exactly resembles mine. My guess is that mine originates from the early 80's, so it could have been manufactured by any number of small builders which may or may not still exist. I think I will just try the 75 engine on it and see how it goes.

I just called the number on the old boatyard sticker on the transom, and they sold it as a Hydrover. I managed a couple of images on the internet and it does look like the correct hull but the topside are different.
Does anyone know anything about these Hydrovers?

Its definitely not a shetland, they have never made any boat like that.
shelties dont look anything like this boat.
and shelties do not have the gull wing hulls, that the later 498 and family 4 and the black hawk hull types.
raider boats uses a hull shape the same as shetlands, and they are smooth and dont have spray rails.

the top if it was around 21 to 24 ft would bring coronet to mind, but not sure what it is.

it looks pretty nice boat, ive seen these before and not realy noticed a name on them.

im sure there was a blue one on ebay a few months back, but that was in bad condition.

the last time i saw one of these was a couple of years back down near brighton.

I think it's a Barracuda from the late 70's. The moulds were later used by a company called Check marine and supplied for home completion. I am sure I have a photo of my fathers boat with one of these in the background circa 1979.


A quick google search revealed nothing so can't confirm for sure.

Thanks guys, for all your kind suggestions. I guess, one day, I will find out what it is. Meanwhile it is now at its new home and is going to get a good wash before I set about fitting the engine. I might get it on the water before next bank holiday if all goes well.
