Its a real shame that some of you have got the wrong impression of Drivers - its a great place and normally very friendly. In fact its the friendly and helpful atmosphere down there that that has kept me going back.

As for the club, well that's a totally separate thing to the yard, but it has grown out of the fact that the yard has become such a meeting place for powerboat enthusiasts and racers in particular.

The meeting on Saturday may have given a bit of a different impression because it was mainly about Marathon racing and attended by a lot of people who are not members of the club or customers of the yard - so many faces, and a lot to be said, so it was difficult to get to chat to many people which was a pity.

I kind of got the impression on this forum that the Drivers Powerboat club meeting became hijacked by the Marathon crowd.

I think it might need its own meeting independent of any other meetings if it is to attract volunteers and gain any momentum.

Just my uninformed opinion of course.

It was a shame that i could not say hello to a few more new faces but i am still hoping to see faces at other meetings in the future.
I think the general idea is to have another club meeting/chat without racing matters to hand as we all know racing politics can get a bit hairy!lol

If any of the guys who didnt see the meeting as they thought they would would like to get in touch with me or the other club reps i'm sure you'll see a different side.

On an optimistic point this does infact show that there is a want for the Drivers Powerboat Club on a social level as this seems to be the main point that this thread seems to have taken on.
We can and will be looking into events, again as there is interest.
Would anyone who wants to be part of the club come to our next meeting to discuss in depth what they want? It would show that the meeting the other day is not completely what the club is about.

The social side of the club may not be a big as the racing members at the moment but in time it can be, but we do need support in numbers for this to happen, as BM shows, the boats and bods are out there, we just need to show that we do have fun and great events.
For any of the guys that do or have done the poker runs etc in the past say what they thought of it, i know they will all be positive.
If anyone up london way would like to meet up for a chat and beer i'm more than up for it, and i would be interested in your views and wants, then i can take it to the club. all ideas are welcome.
Many thanks
Paul

PBC was discussed at the start of the meeting before the Marathon discussion - I think you must have missed that. Committee was announced, and all present were asked what events they would like to see in the coming year, and whether they would like a race put on (voted as a yes - but must be for all classes of boats).

Correct. And when I get a chance, i'll upload the video of the meeting to show what was discussed re: DPC.

I have to ask the question, if someone drove a long way and turned up expecting a greeting party of people wandering around asking strangers who they are and welcoming them, did it not dawn on any of those folk to introduce themselves to someone who was obviously part of the goings-on?
Just a thought.

sorry you felt out of the loop and i think your idear of a signing in book is a good thing and something we should do next time .it was a bit rushed too as the marathon meeting had a lot to discuss as well.i guesse its a bit like going into a pub in a diferent area when you dont know any body but i can asure you it realy is the friendlyest yard there is and i dont know of any other boat yard that will give the extra effort to help that gill and gareth do at drivers.we are a new club and still learning so feed back and requests are important hopefully we will get some good weather this year and some good times. best wishes scott

To add my take on the meeting and the club in general.

Firstly a big thanks to Drivers for putting on the meeting. I'm sure it was somewhat hijacked by the Marathon racing side of things and perhaps not what everyone was expecting.

I would have thought the great strength of the club in the future would be more as a social and fun side of boating. (actually as aspect so often missing in racing). I would have thought that the more the club concentrates of organising general boating get togethers, socials, poker runs, testing days the better.

Boating needs to fun, social and about giving people the opportunity to do more boating, get involved more.

I'm sure Drivers can do all of this as long as it does not get side tracked by becoming another race organising club.
