make sure the water pick ups arnt going to be too high when you trim the engine out after you have lifted it. I lifted mine 2 holes and found it was losing water pressure on the gauge when i trimmed the engine as it was too high, unless you have a low water pick ups fitted. I also had some cavitation making the prop slip. And the engine wasnt trimmed out that much either. Im sure this was the cause of lifting the engine too high as it didnt happen before i lifted it.

yea running a 23" high 5...tried my chopper before i had my seastar steering and it was too extreme when it hit the water after finding air..my 5 is a great prop for messing about, good for getting out the hole and so predictable but that chopper is so violent..having said that after my motors fixed and with my new hydro steering might have another bash with it

I think the merc 2.4 and mariner 2.4 are the same engine? They only called them Mariners and painted them grey for export. The more knowledgeable ones will be more certain than i am.

Is your engine a pre 1990? Mines an '89 or pre '90 2.4L 200 engine they became 2.5L in '91

If it has the split cowling that opens up either side and hinges on the back it is def a pre 90/91 engine as they went to a 1 piece cowling then. No my engine isnt tuned, bog standard. Engine developed a knocking sound like big ends had gone last time i used it, could of dropped a pot, not looked, it still got me back to shore though from Kent back to Essex...just lol. But am thinking of selling it for spares or repair and get a newer or bigger engine rather than repair this one, ideal if you wanted to buy a spare engine to tune up.
