Engine problems
Hi,
I wonder if anyone could help me please,
I have 2 x yamaha f50 2005 engines (with 350 hours on each), with intermittent problems, some times they re a pain to start, sometimes ok, when started and up to temperature if you stop momentarily then put them back in gear one or both will stall, sometimes when coming to the jetty and you go to put them into reverse one or both will stall, when moving with any amount of throttle at any speed they are running perfect, both had new plugs, oil etc
Any ideas welcome
Thanks
Leighton

Fuel lines as both to have the same symptoms is unlikely.
Do they run to the same tank?
If so.. There's where to start
Mike

They are running separate tanks, problem is not there when going , just tick over or going from fwd to neutral to reverse or vice, will check/change the fuel lines though , thanks

I was thinking the same. Could it be the carb's hava some dirt in them that makes them run poorly at idle speeds?

Not sure if this helps but I had the same problem on a Merc I used to have and it turned out to be the diaphram on the fuel pump....good luck with finding the problem

Shouldn't the problem multiply once the engine rev up to top speed - aka need of more fuel? (If you get my point?)

I had a similar problem, Try this, drain the fuel in the carbs by removing the little bolts on each carb.
Locate the jet screws. You can either mark and turn in first to work out how many turns out they are set at or check the manual for the default settings. My F100 is 2 turns out.
Get some carb cleaner spray into the jet holes on each carb, spray the jets and put back in. Replace the bolts you took out to drain the carbs.
Additional but may not be required I added loads of Seafoam to the fuel tanks. I also replaced the primer bulb as it looked like it was breaking down on the inside and the fuel filter.
This solved the problem for me.
