Extreme 24
Hi all,
After years of wanting one, I’ve finally made an order with Tony for a new Extreme 24. I’m 99% going for the new Mercruiser 8.2 HO which has replaced the 496HO. Has anyone had any experience of this new engine at all and how it stacks up against the old 496HO?
There isn’t much of a price difference between the 8.2 and the Yanmar 315 – which although is a tight fit, does apparently fit in a 24, but I really want the extra performance of the V8.
Anyway, thought I’d post this to see if anyone has any views or if there’s any Extreme owners out there who can offer any thoughts.
Hopefully see a few Guernsey lads out there in the summer!
Cheers,
Jack

It's all about getting the bought in trades started on the project, by moulding the seats early on, I can get the upholsterers started on seats and the welder making the frames!

Nothing final yet, but thinking light grey and white, with a very small red trim. Finding it so difficult to decide - too many options!
Will certainly hear it - but will have switchable exhausts as I don't want to annoy too many old Guerns!

If you want some photoshops done just send me a pm with the details! Chief had switchable exhausts on his Baja with a 496ho, I don't think he touched the switches after they were first set to 'open'

cracking boats and yours will fly with that motor. think yours must be the first one tony has built since mine. trying to think of any advice for you,one would be what size fuel tank your having, under seat or under floor, with the petrol guzzler your having, the under back seat option may be a bit small. fender cleats/clips half way down the boat, the main cleat is to far forward. in control foot throttle is a must have in my opinion. remote for stereo on dash. cant think of anything else at the moment. enjoy the build, take plenty of pics.

Thanks Guys,
Paul - Might well take you up on the offer - cheers
Carl - thanks for the ideas there - I've already gone for an additional fuel tank underfloor, and think I'll go for a foot throttle too.
Seeing Tony to finalise most of the specs tomorrow...
Cheers

Go for the largest GPS possible, its so much easier to see and nav when you are hammering around the islands.

Hi Jack ! Fine choice of boat, I would strongly recommend you consider a Bravo 3 drive, I have the only Duo prop one built, possibly not the highest top speed ever achieved (low 70's) but the rough water handling is superb due to virtualy no prop torque when she lands back in the water, closest you will get to a twin engine rig, so driveability is superb and will happily cruise @ between 50 & 60 in most conditions, also does not require trim tabs.
Good luck & enjoy the build
