Oi Kennett!

If Ben C is trying to 'better himself', by not only going for a diesel boat, but taking the opportunity to 'upgrade' to a 'real boat', don't go trying to feckin stop him!!

You're like one of them adicted for life, heavy smokers, who's always offering a fag to some poor fecker who's trying desperately to give up the killer habit 'smoking', coz they wanna keep everyone else 'down' at their level.

Bad man!

Ben, welcome to boatmad, and away from the dark side!

We'll look after you, but you must be strong! The Devil has many agents who will attempt to stop you on your path to the holly grail (Hard boat ownership)

PS. Keep plenty of Garlic by your bed.

Ok, the hunt is on for an extreme 26 with 315hp Yanmar. If anyone sees one around, please let me know!

Cheers

Ben

yes ignore all the saddo's that jump on your thread and ditch that inflatable

re extreme 26's with yanmars, think TD built 3 (maelstrom was an old ring with new yanmar)

great boat and ran so well with that engine 58-62mph, and cheap as chips for economy

you might as well try the new owner of red mist down at poole.... he might be looking to sell.... if you want i'll dig out his number and some photos of the boat when we had it..... this boat was specked to the max and is the best one by far (IMHO)

maelstrom is lying around in a shed somewhere in soton,
i spoke to the owner last summer Brian and he hadnt used it for a year and was thinking of goinf to OZ for a few years!!!

another one was melted in a fire (simply red?)

and there's another one down in devon, sure i saw a thread recently from Chris, about it being up for sale....

unless you go for an older hull and switch over the engine.... would think a old 24 with a new bmw/yanmar 260hp diesel would be nice...
dont think the engine compartment of a 24 is big enough for the yanmar

This Extreme 26 always seems to be on and off the market, not sure whether its been sold yet but you may be able to tempt him if it hasn't!

Remember 'Maelstrom' had a *previous life*!

Enlighten me on the 'spec' thing.

Without wandering too far off poor Benc's thread, I can say they were definitely different, I spent a couple of seasons as a passenger on both and saw Redmist at various stages of production. Yes, the engine and hull are the same, the main differences are inside, Redmist had plently of higher-end goodies put in and the seats etc were obviously different/nicer. I think the X-height was higher and the floor didn't have carpet, I think I'm right in saying Redmist was the first 26 to have the moulded floor inside? Sure Admiral P. will have some more to say in this later!!

It did indeed have the nice moulded floor, which was Pascoes finest, ...cosmetically at least.

Downside was the ghastly Mike Ring Dash assembly, as apposed to the maelstrom/T1 version.

The rest of the Gaffrig bling you can keep. Too much urban myth associated with all that.
