Finished Apache's engine ,put the power head back on saturday then took it out today for a play,big thanks to rich (driver 510) for all his help

i love this boat...what rpm did you keep it to enabling "bed in period" or do these motors need it

Going to run her in at 3000 rpm for 10 hours (26 mph ) may take it up to 4000rpm after 5 hours , so only got 9 hours to do now.There is a few little things to sort out, and I’m going to change the gear box to a 1.87:1

dude 10 hours is way too long
you need to do prob about 4 but make sure u vary the rpm's including switching off and letting cool every 30mins or so!!!

I agree with Burty 10 hrs is way to long, PM Jay Smith and he will give you a break in procedure.

I am sure that on my later race motors I was only putting 2-4hrs on them.
It's only really the bores and piston rings that need bedding in.

i did its not connected i just left the oil pump on till i can get some blanks.

First hour I run at idle on the boat with the motor submerged very deep... ( Mix a BLEND oil @ the ratio your are going to run the engine from now on. ) Next take boat off trailor and run up so that the boat gets on plane quickly. After it gets on plane I normally run the first tank at 3500-4000 and every 30 minutes kill the engine and allow to cool a bit. Next fire it up and continue the ride... Next tankful same thing but up the top rpm to 4500 for short bursts then come down to lower rpms.. Progressively let the motor run up 500 rpms higher per tank BUT don't hold it high.

You need to buy a leak down tester and a JSRE TDC indicator gauge so you can check leak down. After say 5 tankfuls I'd take a leak down test . When the motor shows a good seal % like 4 - 5 % I'd then drop the hammer on it BUT don't hold it for long periods of time for a while. Also very important is to allow the steel sleeved motor to completely warm up as well as cool down after a blast...

Lloyde, i'd just reply to Jay telling him how big your tank is as i expect he may well think its smaller than what it is!! Its about 27 gallons if you were wondering

Burty i have done that ,and will post Jay's reply . On the invoice its a 120 litre tank which is 31 US gallons thats if its the one you put in.
