Interesting! Wasn't the 'Virgin Atlantic Challenger II' a joint design project from Birkett & Levi? That Gentry certainly appears to have Levi influence.

Did Donald L Blount work for or on behalf of Fincantieri Yachts looking at their web site it's quite some company eat ye hart out Sunseeker http://www.fincantieri.it/cms/data/pages/000083.aspx looks like if you have the cash they can make your dream come true be it commercial, military, or mega yachts and they mention Destriero in the section ... Why Fincantieri Yachts ... they have some awesome mega vessels in their line up ...
At the end of this article it kind of sums up why Destrierio has been laid up
http://www.merseyshipping.co.uk/phot...iero260806.htm
'' She has spent well over a decade at Devonport what the future holds is not known, but for what is basically a floating fuel tank powered by three General Electric gas turbines, this outsize power-boat is hardly the most saleable commodity in these oil price conscious times!'' and this article is written 2006 and still no change so guess I was right she's been incarcerated for ever

So how did this boat enter MC1 then. Max length 45' if you check the RB8 webb.

On the entry list its down as a 43'

Am i missing something

As I said, the buzzi site says it's 49' long, but also as I said, UIM measurement wouldn't include the whole bustle/drive/rudder assy, which is probably included in the buzzi advertised length. UIM measure from bow, to bottom of transom (last bit of running surface) on a big buzzi, that extra bustle is pretty huge.

Levi did co-design the Virgin Challenger, in fact I remember talking to him at The Virgin Café during the attempt in '86.

It was a pretty tense time as the Challenger had been partially filled with water rather than diesel, VAC event manager Tim Powell told me that whole story during the RB this year.

The plot thickens

What site says 49'

www.fbdesign.it says its 16.5m which is 54.1' however the diagram shows the boat to be 16m long ( wheres is the other half a meter )

The rear of the transom looks 2m from the rear which means the length to be 14m or 45.9'

I guess there must be another web page

Id be a bit peaved of if was sold a 55' boat and it turned out to be 43' foot

Virgin Challenger

Apparently Virgin Challenger is just about to have a new owner. My brother's been sniffing around the boat in Palma and thought about putting in an offer himself, but then he started working out how much fuel those two 1,000 hp MTU's would get through per hour and bottled it.
